2012 G37Xs ~ Unheard of issues...

Hey everyone ,
Wanted the groups advice on a problem with my
2012 g37xs (124k miles)

So this started a few months back, basically, I was idling, and the car started shaking and was idling very rough, few seconds after the SES light started flashing to which I promptly shut off the car to have it diagnosed. The OBD scanner showed misfire on cylinder 5, I changed out the spark plug and boot and the problem went away.. fast forward another month and the same thing happens ( again at Idle) and I knew it was a misfire, checked it and cylinder 5. So this time I changed out the coil pack.. car drives fine now a few weeks later it does the same thing and SES light comes(same symptoms as misfire ) on but this time the car died instantly. Now even if I try turning it on , it won’t crank. All the electronics are working and I can hear the fans turn on as well when it goes into the on postion but no crank.
The weirdest part is now the OBD scanner says it cannot read the vehicle and won’t get a proper reading. Any ideas ? I’m pretty lost at this point

Yeah check passenger carpet, right side kick panel. That's where the BCM is. Sounds like it may have died.

THanks for the reply, I checked the carpets and they are all dry. It did rain the other day, but all windows/doors were closed and everything is dry.

You can get them used but the hard part is getting it programmed to the car - pretty sure only the dealer can do that. I think your next steps should be to have the codes read and narrow it down. You can get that done from the dealer / auto parts store OR just order a bluetooth OBD adapter and do it from your phone yourself with an app. I used OBD Fusion and it has helped me numerous times for finding issues.

Ok so, the issue with that is, I do have a OBD reader, but since the car shut off( When it stalled after the misfire), it cant read the car anymore. The car is on the on position . and all the elelctronics are on, but it cant get a reading. It just says a connection could not be established, and no matter how many times I try it says the same thing. I confirmed its not the oBD by testing it on a few other cars it read perfectly fine.

Oh sorry, I forgot that you had mentioned that in the original post.

Ok, so the next thing I would do is start checking all the fuses. There is a fuse panel on the driver side sill, a fuse panel in front of the battery box, and another to the left of the battery box in the IPDM unit. You'll have to take off all the plastic covers to get to that one.

After you verify the fuses I would pull the covers off the BCM on the passenger side and inspect it for any water damage. Even though it's not wet now it could have gotten wet in the past and caused some damage.

I had a similar issue today where I had every warning light on, and my reader wouldn't connect to some modules. Turned out to be a blown ABS Control fuse. Good luck.
