Maybe that seal replaces the "waxy rope" one, IDK. My car, '08 Coupe, does not have any other windshield/cowl seal other than the disintegrated foam tube.

Either way.....

Sorry we are talking about 2 diff things. Your seal above is a large seal like on your doors. sits on top of cowl. goes all the way across. stretches across both cowl pieces. it touches hood. it has nipples on the bottom of it where it sits into cowl. does your cowl have holes in the top with nothing in them?

once cowls are removed they have a very tight 1/8" or 1/4" inch gap where they touch windshield underneath. foam goes there.

Gotcha. I was looking at it from the wrong angle, I guess- a "Old Fart" moment... I forgot all about that rubber strip that seals the cowl to the hood!

The backer rod, or silicone, will still be the best remedy.

Thanks for clearing that up for this old man!

Nw brother! For the record i took off cabin air piece. Seal underneath very healthy. I'm skeptical. Water would have to go up and over metal lip to get in.
However I did install 3/8" backer rod in the channel in cowl (thanks G37sPhoton) and the cowl fits more snug now. We shall see! really hoping I'm done with this! My leak was only with heavy rain so it's not super easy to pinpoint.

I have the same leak and it's not the sunroof drain. There are two hoses that come in the car (Coupe) and we sealed both with clear waterproof marine silicon. The air filter is also ok and shows no sign of water damage. Did your solution fix the issue?

Did your solution fix the water leak? Is this leak related to the windshield seals failing at the bottom? Can removing the windshield and having putting it back with new seals be a solution?

As has been stated, ad nauseam, there are only so many places water can enter the passenger cabin.

1. IF there is water in the blower box (best identified with a wet cabin air filter) then water is leaking past the cowls and dripping onto the fresh air intake duct. This was my issue and subsequently resolved with the iPad Cover project and new cowls. This resolved my leak.

2a. IF there is water under the dash/ to the right, then the issue is either the sunroof drain grommet or the main wiring harness grommet (the location where the wiring passes through the firewall from cabin to engine bay. These rarely fail UNLESS they have been modified (ie. passed custom wires through). There are tons of thread on these for you to search and peruse.

2b. Same as 2a except for the left/ driver-side. Same culprits- sunroof drain or wiring harness junction.

3. On Coupes, the door seal and mirror support seal (the triangle) have been known to let water in as they age. Additionally, dirt is known to accumulate and block the drain path under the exterior A-pillar trim panel (post).

Unless your windshield has been replaced/ removed prior, I doubt the leak is emanating from the butyl seals. Is it possible, yes. There were a few reports somewhere here on the forum where water was seeping in under the bottom edge of the glass itself. However, I would not consider removing/ resealing windshield unless verified this is the source by a qualified glass repair shop.

I have a coupe: The sunroof drain is not the issue as it was tested and it is always dry. The 2 grommets in the passenger side where the water is accumulating were sealed with clear waterproof marine silicon which is best sealant. There is no water in the blower box and the air filter is clean. We used tie wraps to prevent the two hoses there from moving and we moved the sunroof drain in to the A/C drain. We cut off the worn out pieces at the end of that hose too. My guess is that the cowl is leaking from somewhere else. Also as per your advice I'm going to check the A-pillar trim and seals to make sure they are dry and we're going to seal the area under the cowl on the passenger side. Thank you for your help.
