Inexpensive Cosmetic Mod Ideas
Hi All,
I just got my White 2013 G37x. While I love the overall look and performance of the car, I would love something a little more sharp externally than the all white look. I was considering black rims and a black grill but I’m on a tight budget.
What are your guys’ opinions on spray painting rims/grills. What other cheap mods would you guys recommend?

I've seen too many scraped or faded black rims on sport sedans lately. They really degrade the look of a classy car like the G, so unless you're willing to dismount and have the rims powder coated black, I can't recommend it.

I would stab someone for my car in white. White wheels on white car makes my “ old man been into JDM before it was a common term” ticker miss a couple beats.
One man’s treasure and all that I guess.
Plasti derp them, see if you like it, then pressure wash the garbage off an either proper paint them or find wheels you like.
As for grills and badges. If you are getting rid of chrome, you have my thumbs up. All the cheesy chrome on my car makes me want to break a hip and die.

Swapping the interior LEDs are still one of my favorite mods. GTR dome lights are also a nice upgrade. Plasti Dip, while having its place, always just has that Matte look to it. Not my favorite look for wheels.
There are plenty of DIY videos out there that show you how to properly paint your wheels. I've done my dad's Tundra and brother's Civic and while it's a more involved process, it looks 10x better vs. dip.

It was actually a spray can application. Duplicolor I believe? I'll see if I can dig up the photos

As Corprin said, it's all in the prep. You take a short cut and it will show. The Civic was just done. We did it the wheels when we repainted the car; so the paint job is only 2 weeks old.
The Tundra was done over a year ago and they look as good as the day they were done. Prep, temperature and environment (contaminates) dictate how it will come out. The Civic wheels we actually had to re-do one because we did it when the temps were 30 (did inside a 50 degree garage) and applied the the base coats too close together. I'd wait for the weather to warm up a bit so the time tables are more reliable.

Were you able to do all that yourself? Or did you take it to a shop? If you did it yourself, do you think a car newbie could do it?
