Hey everyone!

I wanted to ask if there are any mesh lower grilles (the ones that contain the fog lights) that even exist for the G37 sedan? I know the main upper mesh grills are all over the internet. I haven't seen one for the side grilles and was wondering if anyone has seen, or crafted, any?

 

for the sedan sport bumper the fog light grill is separate and can be ordered. from what i could see the non sport sedan fog grill is integrated into the bumper. but i could be wrong but theres no part number for it either. what are u trying to do?

And there is a part number,. Went to buy a pair once thinking I was going to go metallic gloss black on those pieces, and mistakenly got sent the trim rings because the retailer had the parts mixed up. Never picked that project back up afterwards. Probably a good thing... IDK.

 

I know. I already bought them ages ago. I just wanted to know if anyone in the community has made custom mesh grilles instead of the OEM fake plastic side grilles? I know that when you remove the side grilles you see a wall of plastic that is part of the whole bumper, so that would have to be shaved down and then the washer fluid is on the other side and the wind would go straight to the washer fluid which would most likely do nothing for the car, maybe a sort of wind tunnel going straight into the wheel well to cool the brakes? Sorry if I'm making this sound confusing, I just have some visions of what cool things could be done to the G to make it look awesome.

 

ive seen a few pics of people who drilled out the oem grill mesh so air would flow through

 

im looking at pics of the original g35 sedan. did infniti use the g35 sport bumper as the journey bumper on the later g37 models? like what they did with the coupe?

 

no idea if this is what your talking about. But this is what im planning for my fog cutouts. Just a black mesh.

ill undertake this in the summer. Itll be a custom job. Hardest part will be getting the metal mesh to stay in place somehow

 

You could probably take a dremel and turn the factory covers into a mesh-looking grille. However, take them out first and see what is behind them as I think they may look weird since it is not totally open air space behind them.

 

I did this with the fake mesh on my RX8 (rear bumper). You need to have someplace for the air to go. Slit vents in the wheel well liners like the RX8 would work - the '8 had the oil coolers there. Or hoses that point air to the brakes, which is probably a bigger help. I don't really have good pics of the rear cutout, but the front wheel well air exit is like so:





For the '8, I cut out the entire fake mesh and replaced with a metal mesh. I used an epoxy specifically intended for repairing urethane bumpers to glue it down at the edges after I formed a 1" overhang into something approximating the bumper shape. Then used sheet metal to make a duct/surface from rear bottom of trunk to the top of the cutout so the air would go somewhere - effectively a splitter without looking like one.

 

I did a custom mesh grill project before, and found that this plastic mesh closely matches the color, pattern and depth of the OEM lower grill. Not sure if practical for this project, but figure no harm in sharing.

It's been 10 months since the start of the thread. I am thinking of doing your method with a used pair of the side grilles to see how it would look. I'd prefer the OEM style look. I'd have to fabricate a tunnel of some sort with sheet metal to make the air go somewhere useful like the brake ducts or maybe the air filters. Would have to paint the tunnel flat black to not make it look factory. Similar to the Lexus ISF. When I'll have time, I might do it.
