Need some advice

Hey all,
I only purchase used cars. Typically about 4ish years old. I have a 2004 G35 Sedan 6MT (141k) and have found a 2011 G37 Sedan 6MT with 32k on it. Price is just under $17k. Thoughts on making the move to a newer car, but not a new as I typically do?

I never driven the G35 but I can tell you the G37 is an amazing car. I have a 2013 Sedan Journey and I never get tired of driving it. I would say look at a G37 that is newer. Like 2013 or later becsuse I heard some earlier year G37 had issues. Someone mentioned it in my thread and I just wanted to share it with you. I would also shop around and use legit websites like CarGurus to see the best deal in your area. You can also use this to negotiate the price of any car. I have seen 2013 G37s here in California for as low as 17k. Good luck man and check out my thread in this forums. It is called "What do you think of the Gs gas mileage?" We discuss strong points and how owners feel about their G37. It might help you in making a decision. Good luck.

in 2010 i switched from an '04 G35 6MT sedan into an '09 G37 6MT sedan. while there were things i missed about the G35 (lighter, felt quicker down low, reclining rear seats), there is no question the G37 is an evolution and makes a host of improvements and has added niceties. i've had no regrets, and 7 years later the G37 is still running strong and not costing me anything besides routine maintenance. i'm at ~56k miles.

you're looking at a 7MY old vehicle, which is getting up there, but the reliability should be similar to the G35. G37's are generally stout as was the G35, with a few known issues being gearbox/clutch related as well as a poor cam cover gasket design that affects some pre-2012 engines. best bet is to do your homework, have an inspection done, and use your gut to tell you if the car checks out.

supply of 6MT sedans is tough so an '11 may be the newest you can find in your area, but have a look. no major changes for the last few model years. as for pricing, your local search like mentioned above will tell you where the price should wind up. based on what i've seen, the 6MT G37 sedan is much rarer than was the G35 6MT sedan.

But no 6mt in the Q40. The sport/6mt died in 2013

I had a 04 g35 sedan 6speed and bought a 2010 g37 sedan 6speed last year...Unfortunately if you go newer there will be fewer choices with 6speeds (if you want to keep that). With only 32k Im sure that will last you a Long time from now... You will like the engine difference...you will notice the extra hp with the g37 on the highway like around 70-90. Overall it's a nice upgrade but I still like how the g35 body looks better than the g37...It was def hard for me to sell the g35 I had it for almost 10 years so I'll prob have this new one for another decade

Thanks for the advise everyone! I went ahead and took the plunge and sold my '04 G35 and purchased an '11 G37S 6MT with 32k on it! Car was in excellent shape, even though in snow country, the previous owner must've never driven it in the snow.

Nice find!
How many miles on your 35?

141k. Must've priced it right because I sold it less than 1 hour after posting the ad.

Nice find, and congrats!

Want some low-cost planning advice based on hindsight?

1. RJM Clutch Pedal Assembly ($250)
2. Swaybars ($350)
3. Short-throw shifter ($250)

Intake... meh.
Exhaust... absolutely, but a much bigger cost.
Wheels... whatever, that's personal
Suspension... the OEM Sport dampers are Tokico and pretty good
Tune... after exhaust
Rear gears... Oh my god yes.

How good is the RJM clutch pedal assembly? Is it hard to install?
Where'd you find swaybars for $350?
Is the STS worth it?

Pedal is awesome. You will never find anyone speaking negative about it, or even ambivalent. It's a must have for the G/Z 6MT. The install is definitely a DIY, however awkward and uncomfortable.

Pretty sure you can find a deal on new sways at that price point, but it's probably better to say anywhere between $350 and $450. That said, you can also find a set for less in the FS forum or used on ebay. Best bang-for-buck mod you can do to this car.

The STS is only worth it in the sense that it makes you love shifting all the more. There's no serious argument for "performance". It's just cool. More so the engagement in gear than the shorter throw, IMO.

Welcome to the forum, OP.

There were two sets of Eibach bars in the Classifieds within the past week. Might still be available.
