I drive about 45 miles a day (M-F) and I average about 19.2-19.5 MPG . I also feel like I have a small exhaust leak which may be affecting it, but not too sure. But I have never got above 20 MPG constantly for more than a week. Its been at 19.2-19.5 for the last 6 months for me.

1. Warm up the car for less than 30 sec. I wait for the revs to lower a bit and take off. There is a very strong scent of gas though.

2. 50% of my commute is city with pretty heavy traffic. Can't avoid traffic here in Cali lol.

3. For this computation I tried to drive conservatively. So I drove with a light foot and smooth acceleration. It was hard to drive this way lol.

4. Here in CA I go to Conserve fuel. I used to fill up at Chevron or Shell.

5. I also always put 91 Octane.

6. I have the Yokohama YK 580. All season tires I believe. Very smooth but tires squeel and slips under hard acceleration lol.

 

I'm due to fill up soon so I'll see what I get this time, but I'm pretty sure it will be less since I've been driving a lot in sports mode. I also don't use the computer's mpg estimator. I do the old fashion way of total miles driven on a tank/gallons at fill-up. For what it's worth, I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum oil and change interval around every 6500 miles. I'm doing an oil analysis on my next change just to see what's going on with my engine, currently I'm at 57k or so.

 

I currently drive around 85% surface streets and average 13mpg. Worst mpg experience before this was a 335i. I did more highway and averaged around 18mpg.

I own a 13 G37x with Stillen Gen3 CAI and Stillen catback exhaust. During an average month, I do about 80% driving under 50 mph and about 20% above 50 mph. Typically, in the warmer months I average anywhere from 19 mpg - 21 mpg (300 - 360 miles per tank). The colder months is where things really change, I average anywhere from 15 mpg - 19 mpg (250 - 300 miles per tank). My new commute for work now is only 3 miles one way and the Chicago winter has just started to get bad. I will need to fill up today as I type this and am just about 250 miles on the tank.

In the end, I do feel the gas mileage is good/ok for the amount of weight and power we have in the G37/early Q50. I have easily driven 115 miles on a quarter tank with highway driving, so those numbers are possible to get. I really enjoy the mpg's during the warmer months for sure, the cold really causes the car to work extra, sadly. I do experience traffic here and there. I'm located in Wheaton, which is outside Chicago, IL.

When I had my Kia Optima with the 2.0 engine, I really only averaged about 22 mpg. I am getting so much more power, reliability, build and aesthetic with my G. I don't mind losing 1-3 mpg for it, I love my G.

 

Since '09 I've averaged 19-21 mpg with a 50/50 highway/city drive. I drive relatively hard too. Best has been 26mpg coming back from Vegas, worse was ~12-13 going WOT a lot.

If you really care about gas mileage, use your brakes less. Sound counter-intuitive, but those who brake less have better gas mileage due to the style of driving.

 

That is very true, I usually slip into manual mode if I need to slow down but not completely.

 

Great input here guys and thanks for sharing the information you provided. Do you guys feel though that you just should of gotten a V8 car knowing you will get the same gas mileage and about 100 hp/tq more than the G? I knew the 3.7 is a performance engine and would get poor gas mileage but I did not realize it will consume fuel like a V8. Lol.

 

Lol no I don't wish I got a v8. I mean you really need to consider the weight of the G. For example, I had a Dodge Charger with the 3.5L V6 and it produced 250HP (power not even comparable to the G). I didn't get more then 300 miles per gallon (about 14-17 mpg city) on a tank more then half the time. One because it had a lousy 4 speed trans and it was heavy AF. The G is producing 330HP and still is heavy. For a non turbo engine, this mpg numbers aren't horrible. But that's just my opinion. I am not a fan of vehicles that consume a ton of fuel. However, I sacrifice that in the winter because during the warmer months, I easily get 20 mpg whereas I was only getting 2 more mpg on my Kia optima lmao (huge different in cars too). Does that make sense?

 

Getting a V8 narrows options somewhat between Japanese and European cars, and inadvertently means looking at domestic cars. Can't afford the first, and don't want the second. Sure, it only has 6 cylinders, but over 300 HP, RWD, LSD, 6MT... kind of hard to look down on specs like that. Some simple modifications, and no regrets.

 

I'm agree with John . V8 no way sure it sounds good, and would have more power but the options for V8 that has a IMO classy interior and overall great ride, your looking and I car that cost a lot more

 

To counterpoint my own comment... I wouldn't be adverse to owning an Infiniti M56 Sport. Put an aftermarket catback on that luxo-monster, and it would be very rewarding.

 

My average in a Large metro is usually 16-20 mpg and 33+ if driving on the interstate between metros.

The low mpg was was okay when I was younger, lived in a smaller metro, rarely venture more than 30 mile round trip and wanted a cool ride. Being older with higher miles of 50-100 miles round trips just to "hang out" and with gas peaking near 5$ in the past, i sometime wish i would have gotten a prius instead

 

Makes sense! I was actually considering a 2013 5.0 Mustang but decided to go with the G because I thought it would get better gas mileage and it is nice to have the space of a sedan. I was browsing Mustang forums and found out that their V8s get the same mileage as our Gs. Honestly a part of me wished that I looked into the Stang more. It be nice to have the 100 extra horsepower with the same cost of fuel. Anyway I still love the G and it has amazing reliability and performance. Good to know a lot of other owners love their cars!

 

I know exactly what you mean! A Lexus ISF is too expensive and M56s in our areas are so rare and pricey. I really wanted the C63 AMG but the maintenance and upkeep is just unreasonable. It is tempting to get one because there are so many C63s available in the used market here in CA. I also agree with your statement. This V6 is also overkill for the US roads. I cannot use the full potential of the engine. I will end up with tickets or in jail if I try haha.
