How do you feel about the G's gas mileage?

It be nice to have the 100 extra horsepower with the same cost of fuel. Anyway I still love the G and it has amazing reliability and performance. Good to know a lot of other owners love their cars!
Well here are the results of my recent trip.
On the way to Austin with cruise control set to 65mph for 70% of the drive.

On the way back to Dallas with no cruise control and average speed of 75-80mph.

I was hoping to hit at least 30mpg. My previous car was a 08 Acura TL and managed to get a average of ~34MPG going from Dallas to Houston.
I'm jealous of anyone that can get 22+ MPG daily driving to work and home.
My co-worker bought a 2014 Focus ST and averages 27MPG from home to work. We live almost the same distance and I average 18-19MPG.

I understand your reasoning 100%. Especially when ford put the 2.7 ecoboost in the mustang, I would get that over the 5.0 for fuel economy reasons but also the 2.7 put out good power too. It does hurt knowing we have such a great engine with power in the G but not the best transmission either. I often think if we had a different trans, the G could be even more amazing to drive you know. It doesn't bother me as much as some people I've read. I think during the time the G was out (speaking of my 2013), it was in line if not ahead its competition. Times have certainly changed the way cars are now. What other cars are you interested in outside of Infiniti?

Anyway I was interested in a lot of cars. If I had the cash I would get a C63 or even a Chevy SS. I feel that I should have done more research and test drove the Camaro SS or Stang GT. They were about the same price as my G. But honestly the G is a great car. No regrets here just some small realizations lol.
I like the C43 but the maintenance on those Germans .... too much lol.
In the end, I am extremely happy with my G and have no regrets. I get complements and when people drive it, they love it. It's a nice solid ride.
I'm wondering if a grounding kit would help with the shifting and operation?

Last fill up, 20 mpg's on the dot. Total miles/gallons at fill-up. That is with "spirited" driving, and I know that is a subjective term. I'm good with that, especially since I was more heavy footed this time.
My wife never leaves town and is rewarded with 14mpg. She dragged my 40 mpg Cruze down to 18mpg in the same conditions. I have a feeling we'd be lucky to break 25mpg on the open road with her '11xS. The milage on the G is poor, but it's not terrible for a 300+hp sedan.
It's pretty bad. The performance per unit of fuel is awful. But it's a 20 year old, naturally aspirated, big bore port injected engine pushing a ~3700-3900lb car. The 7AT is awful as well and not really geared for efficiency from what I've seen. VVEL helps but at the end of the day it is what it is.
My commute is similar and I'm getting about ~19 true MPG (car indicated ~10% high). I've found some tricks that help, like not letting the A/C run in the winter and being diligent about tire pressures.
For what I paid for my G I could have easily got something with a turbo 4 banger. But turbo 4 bangers sound awful, have worse response, and probably won't be as reliable in the long run. The Gs' mileage sucks but it's at least a known quantity.

And lets face it, the days of large displacement, naturally aspirated, high rpm engines is limited. I'm going to enjoy it until I'm stuck going FI.
Exactly. I had a little panic attack when my gas mileage dipped to an indicate ~17-18 or so but I was able to mitigate it. But yea. The G37 is the last of a dying breed. And that's not just with the engine. ****ty infotainment interfaces, adaptive suspensions that cost $Texas to modify, etc. etc. It's a car I can understand and tinker with without fear. I don't know what I will be able to follow it up with....
I drive about 25 miles a day roundtrip to and from work with 50/50 hwy/fwy driving and average about 19mpg. When I do take it to cali every once in awhile and cruise at 85-90mph I get around 27-30mpg. Its crazy when my range shows 600 miles on a full tank,
