When posting a question requesting help for an issue with your vehicle, please start with the model year, the mileage, any modifications and recent service history.
I like to help, but it's incredibly frustrating without this information. There are a number of things that can go wrong with your car, some are more likely than others depending on the age of your vehicle.
Likewise, it is frustrating to try helping someone chase down some weird gremlins for 2 pages only to find out they didn't tell us that they were ****ing around with something under the hood last week.
Furthermore, if your check engine light is on and you haven't even bothered to have to code read, don't even think about posting.
thank you.

Def not under estimating the knowledge people have on this forum...I think more of the issue is people not knowing where to start to diagnose the problem or wanting an answer without checking the basics. So I don't think miles, year, etc will be too helpful because you could have the same problem with multiple makes or models. I think posting a Checklist to diagnose would be more helpful
For example, "my suspension is making noises, sounds like clunking, what is it?"
Year make or model won't help, neither will telling us if you messed with the suspension a week ago. Until you know what wheel its coming from or at what point in driving it makes noise, all the other info is not needed.
...and...even at that point.....we are still E-diagnosing

we only have to jump to conclusions when presented with incomplete information. The more information provided, the more accurate the diagnosis.
Victory,
Obviously you are 100% correct that members should actually give as much accurate and complete relevant information as possible. Good luck getting Joe Noob to give a damn or comply with common sense. I gave up a long time ago and simply ignore folks who ask stupid or redundant questions or don't really help you to help them. Blnewt (and several other of you guys) is still our resident saint who helps almost everyone no matter what. He's not jaded yet.

I've been around forums for about 15 years now. The amount of people who actually post pertinent info is well in the minority. I've seen people post things like "My car won't start"
The best way to make people realize they need to post important info is to just ignore them all together until they get the hint.
