I never knew about Iron X until reading this thread. I received it from
Amazon yesterday and tried it out on my white sedan. It really does a great job in removing the rail dust, and is easy to apply. In my case, I will still need to clay bar the car, as there are other contaminants stuck to the paint.
I bought my car used in May 2016 (it's a 2013), and have not clay barred the car yet, but plan on doing so within the next couple weeks. I used my Meguiar's clay bar yesterday (probably a light duty clay), but I had to really press hard to clean up the paint. I may try a medium duty clay bar since the car has probably never been clayed.

I'd recommend the following steps:
1. wash car
2. dry car
3. apply iron x
4. rinse off iron x (after leaving it on surface for 5 minutes)
5. dry car
5. claybar car
6. polish car
7. add a sealer to car
8. wait at least 30 minutes
9. wax car
10. do not wash car for at least 12 hours
I don't think the Iron X is intended to remove all contaminants from the paint, only rail dust/iron deposits. Applying the Iron X should remove nearly all of the rail dust, which should make the car easier to clay.

So it sounds like the Iron X gets rid of or at least loosens up the rail dust so it is not such a pain with the clay bar. That would probably be worth it to me as the clay bar is so time consuming when the car is coated in rail dust.
Anyone else have good luck with ceramic brake pads cutting down the amount of rail dust dramatically compared to stock brake pads?

I can only chime in on my experience. I don't have ceramic pads on my G yet.. however every car I ever owned I have upgraded to ceramic and it's been far less dusty around my wheels.
My moonlight white infiniti was the first car I have ever experienced a thing such as "rail dust" this appears to be an environmental issue more than a brake-issue. It can come of other cars brakes or from train tracks rails surface rust that gets dislodged as cars go over the rails on the street. Mainly I think it's from others cars and if you ever look at the aerodynamics of an infiniti you'll quickly realize why you see them stuck to the side and back of the car the most and not heavily in the front.

Finally, I found a good solution: Griot's Garage Brilliant Finish Synthetic Clay. I used it with soapy water as I washed the car and had the whole car washed and clayed in under an hour. (Usually, it would take 1-2 hours just with a clay bar AFTER I already washed it.)
So much easier to use and faster. Pulls of rail dust very quickly with a fraction of the effort. Go get one if you have a white or silver car.

Auto Armor seemed to be a pretty good solution to the rail dust issue. They actually pay to remove the rail dust if you get any. I still had to clay my car about every 6 months, which is not bad considering how much extremely hot brake dust I get at a track day. I think heat was the issue. Regular wax is good up until almost 100 degrees (your paint hits this on a sunny day when it is not very warm out). Auto Armor was good up until about 400 degrees. I think the brake dust from track days was quite a bit warmer than 400 and melting through the Auto Armor.
Auto Armor has now become ceramic (the product is totally different) and the temperature rating is close to 1000 degrees. I really hope this is enough to eliminate rail dust entirely. Only time will tell, but so far the paint is like glass- hard to explain, but I have never seen it so shiny. It also seems to stay clean even easier. So far, so good. I do a track day at the end of this month so we will have to see how it holds up to extreme temps.
