My car caught on fire today while
my fiancé was driving. It appears to have started at the alternator. Car is a total loss. Melted my sport lip and midnight grill and destroyed one of my FA500 coils and one of my 19" anniversary very wheels and both of my front UCA's and my Cusco strut bar.
Damn dude! Sorry that happened to you. I had a car's engine sling a rod through the block and catch fire while I was driving once, but that was a $400 '79 Toyota Corona with over 240K miles on it at the time. I loved that car.
I'll have a few things up for sale, GT spec rear braces and swift springs and my duck feet and some interior stuff. Going to try and have insurance cover my coilovers and wheels.
Yeah, it looks like it started there. Who knows. Worst part of all this is that I got layed off a month ago so I can't even go buy anything until I find another job. At least it's warm enough to ride my bicycle during the day.
So sorry to see that, horrendous damage for sure. Also sorry to hear about your personal situation, hopefully your insurance will at least compensate for a car you can live with.
Hope all is ok w/ your fiance too, I'm sure it's been a very traumatic time.
Thanks all. We do have her first car still as an extra car, 03 mustang convertible, so ill be driving that until I land a new Project manager job. Tempted to actually purchase an 08/09 Lexus GX470 with around 80k miles as a daily though. Always wanted one and they run forever. Would allow me to get a nicer car down the road that could be a nice weather use car.
It didn't happen in the driveway luckily, car is always garaged, scary to think it could have happened while in there. We just had it towed to the house because I had no idea where to send it and the police wanted an answer immediately. Gives me a chance to take a few of my mods off. I'm going to call Infiniti corporate and see what they say. Saw a recall on some other models for a fire risk, maybe something that could be an issue on G37's as well.
wow sorry to see and hear about your loss. good no one suffered any physical injuries. i am curious as to who determined it was the alternator that caused the fire? and how did they determine that?
