So last night on the way to work I noticed my clutch was getting softer and softer. As i pulled into work the clutch went to the floor and would not come up. Tried to pump it back up but it didn't work. Luckily I made it to work just in time.
Checked the fluid on the master cylinder and it was still full. I'm assuming the slave cylinder somehow went.
I'll be calling tomorrow to the Infiniti dealer considering my vehicle is still under warranty. My question is though: is the slave cylinder covered under the powertrain? I've read on the forums where the dealers were giving them issues covering it. But i've also read where the dealers not only changed out the slave but went ahead and changed out the entire clutch system.
Obviously I won't know for sure until it's inspected. My dilemma is that the nearest infiniti dealer to me is about 50 mins. I'd hate to have it towed up there for them to tell me that they aren't covering it under warranty, because I can do the job myself.
Anyways, if anyone has experience with the warranty process please chime in!

Like the clutch plate, the CSC is not part of the powertrain warranty. But if you're still under B2B, you'll be fine. Repair is approximately $1500 at the dealership, and most of that is labor because you have to lower the transmission for access.
Pretty scary stuff, isn't it? Mine failed in the identical manner at 18k miles.
Supposedly, the RJM clutch pedal has a positive effect on what seems to be a repeated design flaw, so you might want to get the pedal. Heck, you'd just want it anyway.

I believe the B2B still has about 2 months left on it. I also extended the warranty out to 5 years total and 100k, so it should be covered regardless.
I originally looked into that pedal when I first got my G, however moved on from it. I'll give it another look. Thanks!

+ 1 on coverage with B2B. i was able to get mine replaced on the powertrain warranty alone since i had filed several work orders with complaints related to the gearbox. basically whenever i took it in for other warranty work (the only time i used the dealer), i made mention of issues/noises/etc with the gearbox. they had acknowledged the sounds but said they'd "keep an eye on it".
sounds like the OP should be all set. i recommend paying for the MC replacement (~2hrs + parts), and make sure they use the GTR fluid - which they should - as part of the re+re.

if they replace the entire clutch you WILL be charged for the pressure plate minimum.
they replaced my CSC, clutch, plate, etc under B2B warranty last year. I still had to pay $800 because while the part that failed was under warranty and the labor for all was covered, they wouldn't cover every part of the clutch and required that the whole thing be replaced to warranty anything else. kinda crappy but it was a $5k job in total and I had a $325 IOU from them so didn't complain.
I did appeal that initial $800 out of pocket charge all the way to Infiniti corporate though and even they said the same thing so it wasn't just a dealer. mine is a 2013 and had 31k miles at the time.

Granted, no one actually knows the statistics of how many 6MT G/Z cars experience this problem. The only thing we know for sure is that it happens often enough for the car forums to identify it as a point-of-failure. Kind of like the rear diff bushing, although much, much more dramatic.
I swear it took me two years to get over that fear the clutch pedal would dump to the floor again without notice. I'm genuinely OK now, but for the longest time I was really bothered by it. Sorry, MaQG37, I know that doesn't make you feel any better.
Yeah, but the 2nd gen G35 had this problem and it was so bad, Infiniti issued a recall. Yet even people with the CSC replaced experienced the problem so the new part clearly fails, as it has on the g37.

Good news. They are replacing the CSC and replacing the fluid with GTR fluid as well. Everything covered.
My original warranty expired 7 days ago so thank god I opted into the elite warranty that extended it out another 3 years and to 100k miles.
Should have the car today or tomorrow. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks for the replies!

Good news. They are replacing the CSC and replacing the fluid with GTR fluid as well. Everything covered.

Does the FSM say to use GTR fluid?. I could have sworn when I was reading through, they didn't make any mention of it. I replaced my fluid with Motul instead. Though, my pedal feels more firm and I like that.
^ the TSB mentions using the GTR fluid. the Tech showed it to me, and i watched him use the stuff out of the fancy black can.
OP - do give a thought to paying for the MC replacement at the same time as the warranty CSC job. if you are keeping the car for a while it is essential. the service manual all but requires this, putting the strong recommendation in bold throughout the relevant section. the problem is that crap from the blown CSC contaminates the MC, and if the MC is left as-is, the contamination from it will then flow back to the new CSC during the fluid bleeding and you could have repeat failures of the new CSC or the old MC in time.

The car is already done and i wish i had the information on the Master Sylinder prior. I guess I'll pray that there isn't any further issues and if there is obviouslyI'll just have to take it to get serviced again. Honestly I think a 2 day turn around on a part like this is phenomenal. So hats off to the dealer

FWIW, I came from an Altima SER 6MT, had the SC+MC replaced under warranty after the pedal dropped on me twice, and it was a hot topic on the forum.
My B2B warranty ends in a few weeks (coming up on 4 yrs), this thread is pushing me much closer to grabbing the elite warranty while I can. Will be putting some more thought into this, to protect myself from a reasonably probable $1K+ repair
