Maint schedules?

Hi Guys,

I took my 2013 G37S to the dealer and of course they recommend to do everything:

- Automatic transmission fluid change
- Brake fluid change
- Steering fluid change

My car has 51k miles and most of these services have never been done.

Now, if I try to find, i don't see anything that says that for example i HAVE to change the transmission fluid before XX amount of miles. Only what the dealer says?

They didn't say "your fluid is wrong", they just said "you're due, you should change it".

What do you say?

Thanks!

Depends on the tech in my opinion.

I just changed my brake fluid at home. The dealership told me that I also need to change it. It's literally brand new.

YMMV

a lot of those service recommendations are mileage or time based. so if the dealer has no record of those fluids being changed by 51k miles and 3 years they will recommend the service. that's reasonable as a conservative approach.

of course, if the service was done elsewhere or DIY by the owner the dealer will not know that so the owner need not worry as long as he's been taking care of things on his own.

as for the slushbox fluid changes, that has been discussed at length on the forum. not sure if there is a consensus, but i do get a kick out of the ambiguous description in the OM. i recall all it says is "Inspect" at various intervals but no finite requirement for actual fluid/filter changes. i believe the slushbox filter is a non-service item. thankfully as a 6MT guy i don't have to worry about sorting out that service item. i can busy my time trying to extend the life of my CSC!

^^Speaking of csc, looks like there's a start to a class action.

Here's my advice. You seem predisposed not to perform maintenance service on your car, and that's fine... it's your car. So what I recommend is that you do everything, right now at 50K miles. That means transmission and differential gear oil, coolant fluid, brake fluid, and steering fluid. Just do it all.

And then forget about it for years to come. Odds are you'll ignore recommended service schedules anyway, and this will give you some peace of mind as the years slip by.

Keep in mind Nissan dealers typically charge less. If you do dive in and get it all done I'd run it by them first.

Will Nissan perform work on Infinitis? I know they're the same company, but I didn't know Nissan would do maintenance on Infinitis. I have a Nissan dealership literally like 2 miles from my house and the closest Infiniti is like a 20 minute drive.

Absolutely they will. What they won't do is warranty work.
