Mileage difference - is 7K a big deal?

Hey all,

I'm looking at purchasing a 2013 G37 sport package sedan in either Black Obsidian or Liquid Platinum.

Both cars are priced the exact same, but mileage is slightly different. The Liquid Platinum has 37K miles and the Black Obsidian has 44K miles. Other than that, the condition is relatively the same as well. Yet, I'm extremely torn on which one to go with.

I previously had a 2007 G35 sedan in Liquid Platinum, so a part of me is looking for something else (i.e. Black). But I know how much a pain black can be to clean.

Based on the above, which would you go with and why?

IMO 7k miles at that mileage isn't much. At that point is where you have to factor in other things. Do they both have the same options? Do they both look like they were cared for the same way? Does one have more/less options that the other? It's just a decision at that point.

If I had the choice between the two for the same price (assuming they were in the same condition and had the same options/features), I would pick the one with the more appealing color. 7k miles is a few months, maybe a year of driving. Doesn't make a huge difference IMO.

I would also look at how many owners each one had previously and which one has more service records. See if you can find out how many miles the previous owners each put on the car, ect.

Both vehicles have the same options and only had one owner - they were both lease cars. Both have a clean Carfax (no damage/accidents) and are in about the same condition. So I guess it really just comes down to color. I like the Black but am a bit worried about keeping it clean. I enjoyed how dirt on the silver never really showed up too bad.

Both will probably be needing tires/brakes. The one with the 44K might of had the tires replaced already (~20K tire life is typical for the S sedans).

I'm not a fan of silver cars, but I'd choose the silver over the black because it hides the dirt well (up to a point). Go over each car with a fine tooth comb, make a table of pros/cons, then decide.

Frankly you're lucky to even find an S sedan available, let alone 2.

Do you have access to the service records? That's more important than 7k miles.

Yeah, I do. Neither really shows anything worthwhile. There's only about 6-8 records for both. And they just show registration events and auto auctions.

So you don't have access to the service history, then.

Maybe a dealer service department can look up the VINs to see the service histories.

This is what I did when I bought my car. I learned all sorts of fun stuff from a different dealership. Also check the GPS logs in the car if equipped. Some owners really use that thing.

Else, 7K miles is nothing.

What sorts of things should I be paying attention to in those records?

Check to see that the recommended maintenance was done at the recommend intervals. Check the owner's manual. It's available at the Infiniti US website.
