Replacement key and keyfob options?
Replacement key and keyfob options?
My car only came with one key and keyfob and after losing my keys in my GF's couch last weekend I am thinking it is time for a second pair.
Is this a dealer only thing? It probably doesn't help at all but I still have the key and keyfob from my 2009 Maxima. Not sure if it's worth anything or nothing at all
Thanks all

You can buy a virgin key fob online for a lot cheaper than the dealership will sell it to you, but you'll have to go to the dealership and pay $100+ to have it programmed. Alternatively there are some automotive locksmiths that can program it, but most can't and the ones that can may charge as much as the dealership does. I think I paid $99 at a Nissan dealership to have one programmed because Infiniti wanted $150. Lexus charged me $200 to program one.
If you go the ebay route, be certain that the one you buy is the correct one for your car. It must have the exact same FCC ID. I think this is the site I bought a Lexus fob form. It was genuine OEM and legit.

Oh yikes, this won't be cheap. So I can't use the Nissan one since it was already programmed? Will I need to get the blade cut too? Not that I always need it but I keep my glovebox locked at all times.

I got another fob a few months ago, but I went through the dealer and paid a decent amount of $$. If the cost is not an issue or you just want to keep things quick and easy, the dealership is your best bet.

Cool post. I will probably hunt eBay for OEM new, get the blade and battery then have Nissan program it (if they say yes) and then have it sit in the drawer at home -.-
I complain but it really is good insurance. Didn't think of eBay for those CR batteries. Mines been low for months but I was too cheap but can't be ~$1.

The first dealer wouldn't program mine I purchased off of ebay because I needed to buy the key from them.
The second dealer told me the FOB was defective and was charged 150.00 for best effort attempts which could be applied if I purchased a new FOB from them which at that point I had to.

If you take your fob to the parts department they'll let you know if your maxima fob will work with your G. I had an 08 G but traded it in for a 12 but kept one of the fobs. The new car came with 2. Bought another one online for $80. Went here, https://www.batteriesplus.com, and they programmed all 4 to my car for $55. Only take a few minutes. Not all stores do programing so you would want to check first.
thats a good deal honestly. i can maybe have nissan man look when i go to buy an oil filter and if so do some batteries plus searching

I bet most people don't know you can have up to 4 fobs programmed to your car. Here's where I got it from. INFINITI G37 Remote Keyless Entry - Key Fobs and Transponder Keys Here's another spot. It says if you order 2 or more you get 20 percent off. Infiniti Key Fob Replacement | Smart Keys
i called batteries+ and the dude was legit and cool. he said they couldnt but he thinks autozone can (which i dont) and said that would be a shot since the dealer will want a ton.
i may call nissan and see if they can program the remote from the 09 Max to my 08 G.
you the man boss, thank you.

If you can find a remote cheaper online than a factory remote, just make sure they have a good return policy as they do not all program. One of the brands we carry at my store is Nissan and not all aftermarket remotes work. (some of it could also be from people ordering the wrong remote) Either way you will have to pay to program the remote and have the key blank cut. The battery is only a few bucks if the place you get the remote from does not include the battery for some odd reason.
If you just want a key blank so you can get into the car if you lock your keys in the car somehow (dead battery?) you can do that for a lot less $$$.
