Ive drive 2 Gs (v36) and 2 q50 now and I want to mention there is a bigger difference between a Q50 and Q50s then there is G37 and G37s,

I test drove a loaded base G37 before I my bought my 07 G35s now they are different but I could owner either, I would have just had to mod the not S more.

The Q50 awd vs Q50S awd are different story, I liked the updates and newness on the Q50awd but I could not own one from how subdued it was.

A few weeks ago I had a Q50S awd for about 10 hrs and there were many things I like better in my G the handling, transmiison and power were definitely more responsive and better than the standard Q50 I drove last time I needed a loaner.

It was fun am made me wan to trade mine fora new vq37Hr vvel Q50s minus the awd ( made it feel to easy and not dramatic enough for me.

Minus that factor and some interior things I would take a new Q50s Rwd over my G.

I leased a 2014 Q50 Premium for 2 years. The fun factor wore off pretty quick. I would say after 3 days I had buyers remorse.

inTouch was very laggy. It would randomly reboot for no apparent reason. It supposedly included Pandora app but we never got it. First it was will be released in a year, then it was delayed til the fall and eventually the removed it from the site. lol

DAS (steer by wire) was horrible. Thought I would get use to it but it was loosey goosey. There were 3 settings or whatever but I left it at normal. We received an update a few months later that made it kinda feel like a normal steering wheel. Then I took the car to Big Bear and all hell broke loose. Steering wheel froze and I almost ran off a cliff.

Even though the backup steering mechanism kicked in, it was very hard to turn the wheels. I've driven cars with no power steering but this was 100x harder. Had to turn the car on and off about 4 times before the steering wheel would work again. This car ruined my trip. I was sour.

We then received several recalls / updates for the steering wheel and they finally fixed it.

This car was suppose to get "good" gas mileage but I only avg 15mpg.

When I finally returned the car and leased a 2015 Q50 coupe, I was a happy man again. All the tech stuff is cool for about 2 hours.

Haven't been bored of my 6mt yet and gets way better mpg.

Oh, to turn on the AC on my Q60 coupe, I just press the A/C button.

On the Q50, you have to press climate button and then look for the A/C icon hidden in the app screen. 2 step vs 1 step.

I agree that the difference from the Q50 compared to the Q50S is a difference that can be noticed...not only based on looks and performance.

Very comfortable car. The interior felt a little more techy and luxo-cool than the G's. I liked being able to change the performance characteristics on the fly (although after tinkering with it a bit, I ultimately left it in the default setting and didn't change it again). It feels bigger, more spacious on the inside.

But the performance was not the same. The G has a certain immediacy to its acceleration off the line that the Q does not share. When I got my G back after a week with the Q, I realized how much I'd missed its boy-racer snap and kick. Also, while the cabin feels a little smaller in the G, I actually preferred this. I like how the G fits me. The Q didn't give me that same sports-car cockpit feel. It felt like an upscale sports sedan, with more emphasis on "cool" than on "fun to drive".

The Q50 is a fine car and I may own one in the future, but I wouldn't buy one to replace my G37 just because it's newer. I have way too much fun driving my G to want to give that up.

The first time I had a Q50 loaner, I felt the same...no comparison to my beloved G37xS.
I was so set on buying out the G37xS and considering leasing a Q50 was not even a thought in my mind, but that decision changed quick after I was persuaded to test drive the Q50S AWD which I'm leasing now.

The DAS sold me!

Throw the Q50S into Sport mode and it becomes a different animal...steering is much more precise, heavy and quick...no lag. Shifts are more responsive and smoother compared to my modded G37xS.
This basically applies for the Q50S and not really the Premium based Q50 which seems to be what others here have driven or was given as loaners.

I can't say enough about how surprised I was compared to my previous experience driving the Q50 loaners.

Try and keep an open mind and go test drive the "Q50S" with DAS in SPORT mode and then come back and let us know what you think about it...I'm sure that the results will be somewhat a bit more positive, maybe not a game changer but a better view on the Q50S.

No way I would consider a Q50

At 150,000 miles, the G has been perfect. I have the 2012S. The steering is real, maintenance has been cheap, 330 hp is naturally aspirated with the unkillable 3.7; no costly “twin turbo” to repair, no stupid second touch screen, decent navigation, comfortable seats, ergonomic controls, great sound system, passengers like it and parts are inexpensive and everywhere. I LOVE THIS CAR as much as the day I bought it.

The Q50 is not timeless. The G is. The G is that car people like me will be tending to lovingly while the tries-too-hard Q50’s head to the crusher with far more troublesome electronics long term and silly steering more suited to playinh XBox than driving a vehicle.

Q50 owners will be sad as time goes on. G owners who keep their cars and love them will not.

I have the 2012 G37x and was very disappointed with the Q50. Firstly the exhaust note isn't as nice on the Q50. Second the displays can not be seen in direct sunlight due to their position. Third you can feel the 28 horsepower difference. And lastly TBH I don't like the design of the Q50.

I came across this video recently. I probably wouldn't buy a Q50 due to it being a little more difficult for a DIY'r to handle, well for me anyway... Cars are becoming more and more complicated and difficult for the little guy to fix him/herself.

Q50 is boring and unpleasant to drive. The VR30 doesn't sound as good as the VQ37, even though both engines are not good sounding engines in my opinion (trumpet or trombone sounding). I hate how the DRLs are on all the time for the Q50, and I hate how complicated the engine bay is. The interior in the Q50 is better quality than our Gs, but there are just too many technological gizmos in it that is unnecessary. The steering is awful with the Q50, and the design itself isn't as nice looking as the G. The Q50 looks similar to Alfa Romeo's Guilia, and Mazda's 6. The G is a design where anyone who sees it knows it's an Infiniti. I like the rawness of the G a lot more.

Ok to avoid creating a new thread i figure why not use this one...

I've been searching for a good 2012+ G37X to no avail....so my eyes are now moving to a 2014/2015 Q50.

Anyone here with kids have a Q50? To my understanding it's roomier then the G37x.

I will be reading the threads more to find out which year/model Q50 i should be looking at to avoid issues, but if you have any further input please chime in! Thanks

I think both cars have limited space in the rear, especially with tall folk up front.

after the G35 sedan, the subsequent Infiniti G replacement sedans have gotten wider and longer, which is not good for handling around the city.

I would guess that the G35/G37 feels more like a 3-series whereas the Q50 feels more like a 4-series (not as nimble)

Based on the spring rates of Tanabe NF210 springs as below which are usually 0-5% up from OEM...
G37: 7.6(f) / 7.2(r)
Q50: 6(f) / 2.6(r)

Q50 is also heavier. So, I think Q50's suspension should be softer or lower natural frequency(more technically).

However, in my experience softer suspensions don't always mean worse handling...

When I changed from 2007 G35S with PSS10 suspension to 2017 GSF I found GSF's softer suspension was more isolated or not as focused generally. However, when I pushed my GSF a little harder at the bends... Once the softer springs are compressed and loaded, wow... That handling was so solid and precise and was totally at a different level which was even better than the M4 competition I rented in 2019!!!

So, that's why I put Ohlins DFV 16/12K on my GSF to keep it focused ALL THE TIME... (also no more that little initial delay)

First post is hilarious, let me go post what my neighbor just said on myg37.com!

Also, Q50 loses every time since no MT…
