I test drove a 2012 infinti yesterday at a different dealership and I did notice the transmission was engine breaking a lot. Plus when I put the foot down, it would down shift like crazy and rev up to 5-6k rpm till the next shift. It felt super touchy .. I was assuming it might be fly by wire effect as compared to my 02 Camry v6. But now you got me thinking it actually might have had a bad tranny.
Would you guys advice on the trade off between buying a used vs lease? With used I was thinking of financing 15-17k over 36 or 48months and trading in my Camry for 3-4k$. So my monthly installments should be in the 300-450$ ballpark. How does that compare to similar amounts per month on a lease? I walk to work, so it's mostly going to be driven on the weekend.
What would be a better value? Will a 2012 infinity with hold value if I sell it in a year or two? Or is lease a better option?

If you can live with your current car for a few more months, I highly recommend waiting 1-2 more months for the Q60 to come out. There will be more inventory from trade-ins which would push the price down, especially for 7AT models. The cost savings justifies the wait, and it'll let you pick from the best of the best rather than the limited options in the market right now.
No, that's inaccurate advice.
Basic Drivetrain warranty is 6 years. Corrosion warranty is 7 years.

Lol that's because I'm a mechanical engineer.
I forgot to mention, GET THE SPORTS EDITION!!! They're a bit more rare but the additional sports package originally cost 2k so a G37S will usually sell for 1k more than the standard model. With the sport package, you get MUCH nicer looking akebono brakes, paddle shifters, nicer seats, bigger rims, cooler front bumper/sideskirts, and a VLSD differential (redundant). Good luck man!

Thank you so much for all the replies. I really appreciate it.
I wouldn't mind waiting a few months, but my current car has developed some issues that may need be fixed soon and would end up costing me at least 1k-1.5k$ and the tradein value for my car is not more than 3k$. So, I'm trying get rid of it before the issue gets severe.
I looked at the current inventory and there seem to be some 2015 Q40s with 13k miles, but they were corporate leases (I dont know if this makes their value go down when resaling) for about 25k$. It seems the 2014 Q50, the Q40 and G37 all seem to have the same 3.7ltr engine. Is there any advantage of buying the Q40 over a G37. Also any advantage of buying the Q50 (apart from looks and interior/security. What about engine/transmission/ Chassis/ brakes/ suspension upgrades?).
I haven't seen any G37 coupes or G37S in any of the showrooms, they might be hard to find. The only coupe I saw was almost 30k$ and it was a 2013 .. which I think is excessively pricy. Will the coupes always be 3-5k$ expensive than comparable G37 Sedans?
Also, is it worth buying a CPO sedan at almost 25k$ ? Or is it better to go for a brand new Camry/Altima etc ... from a pure financial stand point not from a technical stand point. (And I google on this issue and only get articles written by web journalists, whom I don't really believe. Its better to get this advice from a group of people who have personal experience
.. )

The Camry and Altima are fine cars in their class. However, the G37/Q40 is not the same class of car. It's different, and arguably much better depending on your values. If you're comparing those three cars with equal consideration, you're probably not going to get the help here that you're looking for.
I understand what you mean and I'm no way comparing an altima to a G37 with an equal weight. In fact, just forget I even mentioned that haha
... I've never spend this kind of money on anything yet and I'm a recent grad. So I'm just trying get the best advice

If you want old-man advice, it doesn't read like you have a strong love for cars. If that's true, perhaps you should look for something with better mileage and more contemporary styling.
If you want car-guy advice... the G37 can be a fantastic driver's car, easily modified with a number of aftermarket options.
Haha, trust me I'm a 'Petrol-head' .. and my next car will be a F-type or a Cayman S .. but that would have to wait till I can take care of my loans.
The main reason I'm attracted by the G37 is that exhaust note and pretty much the most powerful v6 motor in the class. I could probably get a 320i for the same price, but that will be no fun

By all means, get the G37. And my advice is that you need the RWD Sport Package. That would be a Journey Sport, or the 6MT (which was actually its own sub-model.) That does *not* mean the G37xS... which is sport-appearance. Also, the 6MT Sedan is super rare, so your options are very limited to the time you're looking for one. And unless you live in a major metropolitan area, you'll probably have to travel to pick one up and drive home.
The Journey Sport is exactly the same car as the 6MT, just with the 7AT instead of the manual. Excellent car for the automatic owner, and easier to acquire than the 6MT.
If you're wanting next-car to be a F-Type or Cayman, then you won't be happy unless you get the RWD-S. Note that 2013 was the last year for that configuration. Infiniti dropped the Sport Package available in the Q40.

However, an aftermarket exhaust does really make the car come alive. I recently put a top speed exhaust system (y-pipe back) on my car and aside from a fitment issue, it's fantastic. Good luck with your search, but if you're truly a car guy like you say, definitely plan ahead on changing out the stock exhaust because it'll drive you crazy if you dont!
Nitro, I'm used my uber silent Camry's V6
.. even the G37 sedan sounded like it had nice throaty exhaust not to me, certainly more pronounced than Lexus/acuras that I have seen.
And since you mentioned that, are there any performance benefits/ differences in the engine specs/ECU mapping/ exhausts between the G37 sedan and the coupe?
Any advantages of buying the 2013 coupe vs a new Q40? or a cheaper 2013 G37 sedan?
I'm seeing a 2013 G37 Coupe with 40k miles (indiviual single owner) for pretty much the same price as a 2015 Q40 sedan with 14k miles (1 owner Corporate fleet though)

The coupe's exhaust is routed to the rear w/ larger piping and utilizes a single, transverse muffler mounted under the trunk with two outlets for the exit/tips section. The sedan's piping is about 1/2" smaller in diameter and is routed to the rear through two individual oval shaped mufflers on both sides. You can just search google for pictures of both exhaust layouts for a better understanding.
If the sedan sounded like the coupe from the factory, there would be no need to mod it at all in my opinion except for visual enhancements depending on what you like. As far as which one to buy, that all comes down to what your needs are! I have a sedan because I like the extra room and comfort on longer trips but there's absolutely no denying that the coupe looks 10x better.
