Advice G37 2012

Hello,

I'm a recent graduate and have been looking at infiniti postings for some time now.

I recently found a 2012 G37 with only 15000 miles being sold at a local non inifiniti dealership for about 21k$.

I wanted to get some idea on what potential maintenance costs/ routine yearly cost should I expect as I have not owned a luxury car before. I'm coming from a 2002 Camry Xle.

Also, since this car only has 15000 miles, will there be any warranty still valid on this car? Since this dealership is non infiniti I doubt it will qualify for certified used.

And finally, in general, can you please advice me on what to look for in the car, any red flags?

Thanks I would really appreciate some help as this will be my first large purchase and I'm very nervous.

I was in your position almost exactly one year ago lol. If you can swing a recent model g37 them I'm going to guess you're either a programmer or an engineer?

Maintenance cost is fairly cheap, it's a nissan so they're fairly reliable. Stuff like changing brake fluids or transmission fluid is around $150-200, which is recommended at 30k.

You will have the manufacturers warranty from date of original sale. If you want, you can also have your car inspected by a infiniti dealer then buy an extended warranty. I had originally factored that into my costs but never actually got it since the car drives so smoothly and without issues.

Bring a friend when you go to look at the car, preferably someone who can look closely at the car and check all the details because you're going to be too busy falling in love with it.

As @Born2lse mentioned, it is a Nissan/Infiniti, so they are very reliable vehicles. As long as the trans doesn't slip, body doesn't have rust, or anything crazy along those lines, it sounds like a reasonable price.

Post some pictures for us when you get a chance!

I'm assuming its the 7at, I would suggest making sure the transmission feels OK. You can look at the big thread of 7at issues, and I believe the transmission update did not apply to the 2012 years, but I have heard a few issues with them albeit not as much as previous years. Hard downshifting 4-3, engine braking more than normal, etc. Just something to look out for on the test drive.

I was in the same spot when I found my G back in May of 14, Definitely get it but I would recommend A) buying from a user off here that has many of the mods you want as you'll get an amazing deal, b) look at private parties and get it inspected or C) if you really want to buy it from the stealership make sure its atleast a CPO lol good hunting and post some pics of what you get!

Thanks guys. You were freakishly accurate i am a software engineer lol.

I test drove a 2012 infinti yesterday at a different dealership and I did notice the transmission was engine breaking a lot. Plus when I put the foot down, it would down shift like crazy and rev up to 5-6k rpm till the next shift. It felt super touchy .. I was assuming it might be fly by wire effect as compared to my 02 Camry v6. But now you got me thinking it actually might have had a bad tranny.

Would you guys advice on the trade off between buying a used vs lease? With used I was thinking of financing 15-17k over 36 or 48months and trading in my Camry for 3-4k$. So my monthly installments should be in the 300-450$ ballpark. How does that compare to similar amounts per month on a lease? I walk to work, so it's mostly going to be driven on the weekend.

What would be a better value? Will a 2012 infinity with hold value if I sell it in a year or two? Or is lease a better option?

The differences in the technology is definitely part of the issue, but the 7at has some kinks that were not really worked out until the Q50. That's not to say that it is unreliable, however. The engine braking may be able to be fixed with the transmission update I mentioned earlier, I am not sure if it applied to 2012 though. Why would you only own the car for a year or two? If you plan to own it for at least a few years buying the car used will be the better deal 99% of the time.

For piece of mind try to find one with a build date of jan 2012 or newer. I know the updated timing gasket was introduced right around then.
Would be great piece of mind to ensure you wont get surprised with a 3k$ repair down the road

It's built on 11/11 and the transmission on this felt a lot better than the one I drove yesterday. The only problems I saw was slightly bent muffler tip and a small tear in the stitching on the driver seat. Tires look brand new and engine didn't seem to make any weird noises. Anything you could tell me from the date of manufacture? It's only got 15k miles so I don't know about the timing gasket problem, when does it usually happen? And anyway to rule out mechanical/ electrical issues?

If im not mistaken, 11/11 is the actual month of the change ironically.
its pretty rare but good for piece of mind. It appears to fail anywhere from 30k and upwards. Not sure if anyone has conducted a poll? I would be surprised if its more than 1% of engines manufactured.
Only something to think about if you plan on keeping it for quite a while

Guys never mind. That particular model is no go , as the dealer was extremely unprofessional and gave me a terrible price on my old car. He was talking in a very rude tone. I'm gonna keep looking. Any good places to buy in Dallas?

Check out www.vroom.com

They are located on I-20 & Great Southwest.

I purchased my G37S there April 2015.

If you are looking mainly into buying a car to help with the financing ordeal, you can look into selling your vehicle outright (get a better price on the private sale of your car) and then finance the price you are looking for in difference on the price you pay for the car. My best friend did the same when he bought his 06 Cayman S. Found a needle in a haystack and bought it for 29k with 24000 miles. Sold 3k more for what dealers where asking on trade and saved 5k on what dealers where asking for his Porche. Takes a little bit more work and you might have to pay a bit more in sales tax since you are not trading, but if you're looking for the to save the most money overall and get a bigger and better selection of vehicles it may be worth looking into.

If you're looking for a car that you'll keep for say two years or less, I would be hopping on cars like this https://www.myg37.com/forums/g-s-fs/...sedan-6mt.html at the end of the day there are many, many G owners with 80k plus on our Sedans with 0 problems.
