New to the G37 world, couple of ?'s

Finally gave up my G20 and picked up this car recently.

Searched for these two issues, I see there's a few threads on both, but I didn't see any recent posts/solutions.

1. Passenger seat air bag light. "Off" light illuminates ALL the time when seat is unoccupied. Is this normal? According to the manual (which is worded strangely, I've noticed) says its supposed to come on when you first start the car and turn off after 7 seconds if unoccupied.

The light was also on the whole time last night when my GF was in the passenger seat. She's about 140lbs. I sat in the seat, the light finally went out after a few minutes and stayed out even when I got out of the seat.

So what could be the deal with this? Checked ALLDATA for recalls didn't see anything regarding this issue. There's are complaints on recall.gov and here obviously. But not recent posts.

2. While the car is in D and stopped with foot on the brake, if I turn the wheel slight left I get a clicking sound from under the car. Also happens when I turn the wheel back to center. This only occurs after the car has been driven, doesn't happen after the car has sat.

Any ideas? Bad steering rack? Ball joints?

Have an appointment with Infiniti on Thursday, just wanted some ideas before I go in.

Car is still under factory warranty till June 2016 certified till 2020. 2012 G37X 50800mi

I read this already. This post looks like it has to do with a noise inside the cabin regarding the clock spring in the steering wheel. The noise I'm encountering is outside/under the car. The OP posted the same symptoms but people responded with stuff regarding the clock spring. It also seems he didn't find a solution and decided to "deal with it".

Yeah... the red air bag light on the cluster is not on. The Nissan air bag light reset is for that light only if I remember correctly.

So let me get this straight, just so I have an understanding how this silly advanced airbag system works.

If the seat detects ZERO weight, the light should illuminate "OFF" for a few seconds then go out (passenger air bag is OFF), when the car is started.

If the seat detects 1-120lbs, light illuminates "OFF" (passenger airbag is OFF).

If the seat detects 120+lbs, light does not illuminate (passenger air bag is ON).

Am I correct?

So since I'm encountering the light staying lit or coming on randomly, I'm guessing the seat is detecting slight weight when it shouldn't. This is really irking me. It was operating correctly all last night and even this morning when I first left for work. But as I was driving the passenger airbag light illuminated. Shut the car off and restarted. Nothing was on the seat the whole time. Fine again.... so annoying.

The dealer better give me some answers tomorrow or they will not like me.

I sure hope not, but this would explain why the airbag is disabled when my wife rides in the front passenger seat. Scary.

Yup, that engine was bulletproof. Was sad to have parted with it, but I wanted AWD.

My experience racing a Sentra SE-R in the 24 Hours of LeMons sez otherwise. We put picture windows into the sides of two blocks. It was a rather strong little engine for its day, though. I enjoyed the heck out of my SE-R.

Quick update. Car is currently at the dealer.

Steering noise was being caused by play with the inner tie rod. Being replaced under warranty.

Passenger airbag issue being caused by a faulty OCS sensor which is essentially whole bottom cushion as we all know. Sounds like it will be covered under warranty, thank god. But they need to get an authorization from Infiniti because of the cost. They tried to recalibrate the sensor but it only worked for about 2 drive cycles before it acted up again.

Curious to know why these go bad. Especially such an expensive design. Apparently it's fairly common across a whole range of Nissans, I'm curious as well as to why no recalls are being issued for stuff like this. Especially that it deals with safey equipment.

Another update... Airbag issue is fixed. Whole bottom cushion was replaced on their dime. But the car is back at the dealer for the steering noise.

I told their service writer they need to look at the steering rack and pinion. And that their tie rod replacement did not fix the issue. Even took one of their techs along for a ride. He acknowledged an issue. Called them back Friday and was told that they can't pinpoint the noise. FML seriously?!?

So it's still there... Hopefully I get a call back Tuesday or they're gonna see the ******* in me come out. I've be patient and courteous. BUT Sadly I feel like I've driven their loaners more than the car that I actually purchased.
