Or BMW...

I think if you camp out on the user forums for any brand of car, you will discover a tremendous number of perceived issues and very few people gloating about x number of trouble free miles.

I was recently going to buy my wife a used MDX recently and was blown away by how many complaints there were online, and they MDX is generally understood as a very reliable, Honda-based SUV.

Just set aside some spare bucks in a "repair slush fund" a hundo here & there over time will give you a safety net if & when the time comes. Seems like a better option than downgrading your driving experience and possibly even more $$ to keep them on the road.

And if you never need a repair you'll have a stash for a trip to Las Vegas

And who knows if the car you purchase will become problematic?

Replacing a known with an unknown is risky.

As worried as you are about that gasket, you might want to be at least as concerned about the water pump. Did you know that the G37 requires the whole front timing cover to be removed (just like the gasket) for a water pump replacement? Not sure what Nissan was thinking having the pump enclosed within an oiled area. If the shaft seal goes bad, coolant leaks into your oil instead of on your driveway, that would be a VERY bad thing.

SilentR,

Your concern about the water pump is valid but to tell you the truth I have never heard of any G ever having a bad water pump and needing replacement.

Even my 2003 G35 wit 1/4 million miles still has the original water pump.

That is one thing you probably don't need to worry about for a while.

This is sage advice.

2016 Manual S GTI w/Lighting package (insane HID bixenons, cool DRLs, and headlights that swivel around corners, and auto level) and power pack (electronically controlled mechanical LSD, big brakes) then get an APR tune 1.5 stage. You have 320 WHP and 380 WTQ, and you'll drive like a god. Seriously nice package. Best car ever, and -according to CR - very reliable with the new engine design. Zero oil burning.
