G37 sedan interior plastic noises

I know it is not a big deal.. but sometimes it is really annoying..

Whenever you turn, driver over a bump.. all these plastic cracking noises are everywhere!!

Especially the A/C part where the air comes out.. really these makes my car sounds like 30 years old.

Do you guys know how to fix these issues? maybe oil them up a bit? or should I go ask infiniti to rub them up or something?

Do a search of the forums for 'popping' or 'squeaking'.

That should get you what you're after.

Felt tape is your friend... lots off threads about negating the various creaks and noises. I had basically disassembled my middle console/dash within first two months (but i'm comfortable with doing that stuff) of ownership. zero creaks during driving or with applied hand pressure from dash area... center console, armrest cabinet or shift gate since then. .

this is a good topic.

on my 2011 G37 sedan, I actually brought to dealer twice just for the side panel plastic squeezing sound, and they did fix it.

so far so good, car doesnt have any sound and very rigid. on my friend's 2010 328i it's a complete story, car sounds like almost broke, oh well thats a different topic.

You mean you add felt tape around all the plastic?I thought felt tape is for the surface

I used this on the windshield cowling to stop the popping and squeaking from that:

http://m.ebay.com/itm/1-32-quot-x3-8-quot-Rubber-Black-Auto-Car-Seal-Strip-Universal-Soft-U-Shape-Trim-5ft-60-quot-/181808496415?txnId=1426367847008
A couple of weeks in and it's working great.

Hey Sean, Thanks for the reply.

The pictures in the threads look like broken

Anyways, I don't have any cracking noise from the windshield but from the dashboard.. from AC vent especially. I was thinking putting some rub or something..

Sometimes a bit of paper towel or the thin rubber shims they give you with a bike computer work well. I spent a week trying to track down a squeak in the dash only to find it was my sunglasses vibrating for a split second in the storage compartment in the roof.

Yup. Appears to have happened on a site software update. Blew my build thread up and I haven't been motivated enough to go back and re-link.

Anyhow, you can still get the gist of things from the verbiage.

Been there with the sunglasses. Now I wrap them in the cleaning cloth when I put the away. Seems to work because that felt lining the compartment does f*ck all.

My G has two distinctions.... both the most expensive car I've ever owned, and the creakiest. I'm currently trying to solve the annoying constant rattling of the rear deck which sounds like the speaker grill is loose, but isn't.

At times, I think I hear a rattle at the glove box and somewhere in either the passenger seat or door.

It must have been a creaky car that led to the invention of felt tape! And news of the invention never made its way to Infiniti engineers.

The creak in the passenger seat door may be one of the two plastic trim pieces along the bottom right side of the passenger seat. The floor mat on the passenger side can physically touch one (it covers the seat bolt), and for it, I set the mat up against it to prevent vibrating. The other peice runs lengthwise along the outside portion of the seat. It comes loose alot and needs to be 'pushed' back on place. Another helpful item to assist with squeaks in the center console is to take the passenger seatbelt connector assembly and push it down between the passenger seat and the center console.

The one I can't seem to tame is coming from the backseat/rear package tray. On the 1st gen, this one was common and all you needed to do was remove the seats and tighten the x-brace behind the seat. Worked like a charm. Not sure if that is still an issue on the third gen model. If so, I will make the dealer do it under warranty.

The sport suspension and worn tires was a bad combo for me. Once I replaced the tires, many squeaks/rattles went away.

The rattle in the rear deck began when I installed the AMP/sub combo in the trunk. Regardless of how hard you try to carefully disassemble all of the trim pieces in the trunk, they never go back together as tightly as they were initially installed at the factory. My hypothesis for the mysterious package tray rattle is that one or more of those small round clips that hold the trunk trim pieces in place is more loose than normal and resonating at certain speeds. This was much worse before I replaced the tires. The worn RE050As were hard as a rock and caused a much higher level of NVH in the cabin. The new PSSs must be made of the softest rubber known to man as the NVH was cut dramatically and the tires themselves absorb Armour-All like mad. In addition, it seems that everything sticks to the tire like a sponge. Curious to see how long they last.

I can't imagine how bad the rattles are in the Gs that have 1000W sub amps installed driving multiple 12/13s!
