Some just have a problem accepting the bs they have been believing for years. This myth on gasoline has been confirmed by me with actual testing for one moth periods and recording my MPG and performance as well as by local service mechanics at my Infiniti dealership.

Brand new vehicles are not delivered with a full tank of premium.
Has anyone ever had their brand new vehicle full tank of gasoline tested for octane rating?
I've never seen a post in over nine years on this.

The only losers are those spending thousands of dollars over time on a gasoline that is not needed for daily commuting or long road trips. Only might be needed if they are racing.

Cheers

Page 441 of the 2012 Vert Owners Manual (and all the G owners manuals): "Use unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number." However, some regions don't supply 91, for whatever reason. That's probably the way of it where you live.

On a side note, watching a delusional 87 octane zealot admonish someone else for using snake-oil additives in their car... that's freaking priceless. This thread contains pretty much exactly the kind of fail that I thought it would. The only thing that would make it better would be if Telcoman disproved the oxygen myth, confirmed by him with actual testing.

Here's some more from the Owners Manual. LIES!!! I TELL YOU, LIES!!! (LOL)
Aftermarket fuel additives
INFINITI does not recommend the use of any aftermarket fuel additives (Example: fuel injector cleaner, octane booster, intake valve deposit removers, etc.) which are sold commercially. Many of these additives intended for gum, varnish or deposit removal may contain active solvent or similar ingredients that can be harmful to the fuel system and engine.

Octane rating tips
Using unleaded gasoline with an octane rating lower than recommended above can cause persistent, heavy spark knock. (Spark knock is a metallic rapping noise.) If severe, this can lead to engine damage. If you detect a persistent heavy spark knock even when using gasoline of the stated octane rating, or if you hear steady spark knock while holding a steady speed on level roads, have an INFINITI retailer correct the condition. Failure to correct the condition is misuse of the vehicle, for which INFINITI is not responsible.

Well said Rochester. I have the exact car as you, i have used this fuel lubricant on and off on numerous cars for years with no ill effects.
all i know is 5 tanks in and my combined mileage is now at 26.8!!
Before this it was 22.8. Not to mention no dry startups for the combustion chamber and a little more throttle response. All i can say is try it, works great for me

In the meantime, don't be shocked if the rest of us look at you and the octane nutcase as two sides of the same coin.

The fuel additive part is funny to me because we do actually sell that at the dealership I work at as part of a service

87 octane + 11.0:1 compression + Texas heat = spark knock. No bs or myth about that when you can hear it with your own ears.

Was the scientific method was employed in your testing? Have you tested a vehicle's octane off of a new purchase? There's never been a post because no one 1) cares or 2) has even given it a second thought.

It's pretty lame to admonish everyone else for using the fuel blend that the owner's manual calls for like you're sitting in some (pseudo) ivory tower of intellectual superiority with your 87 octane.

I was baffled by this part of the post: "only might be needed if they are racing." Detonation? Heat? Pre-ignition? Nah, no need to give serious consideration to that in a race environment.
