Has anyone every just removed the mufflers and not added the pipes? Would there be any drawback to that (other than not having the cool exhaust tips?)
THank you!
I think you could run the risk of exhaust gasses entering the cabin when stopped, or at least making the underside more dirty (esp if you're also running without cats), since the exhaust contents wouldn't clear the back of the vehicle before rising. I'd imagine it would also be much louder in the cabin than extending the pipes.
I haven't done it, so I can't say that these things will happen for sure, but they're what I see as the possible issues that could arise.

Mine have been removed for almost a year now. There is going to be more exhaust noise in the cabin but I think it sounds great. Exhaust gasses entering the cabin have never been an issue, even sitting idle at a light with all windows down.
Carbon Monoxide poisoning comes to mind. It's fun, you should try it.
Mufflers don't have an affect on CO, if the OEM cats are in place and functioning it wouldn't be an issue that the exhaust comes out a foot closer to you.

bought my sedan a couple months ago and it had the muffler delete on it. Anyone get a ses light from it? Mine goes on and off and throws a misfire code. When i jack up my car and tinkle around with my exhaust, the ses light goes away. Then when its a cold morning out, the light comes back on then eventually goes away after a few days.
I had a muffler delete for a week before my exhaust came in. It sounded alright but I would not recommend it. Really loud, and caused a good amount of drone on the freeway. It was louder than my current set up of ART pipes and a catback. Also, as was mentioned I was not a fan of being poisoned slowly by CO gas.
Seriously, I can't believe this has to be explained to people.
Not everything that comes out of the exhaust is odorless. If I can't smell anything from the exhaust at idle with the windows down, I doubt I'm breathing in carbon monoxide.
It amazes me all the different feedback I'm reading about muffler deletes.
I simply un bolted my rear mufflers on my 2011 g37s 7AT and it sounds great for a free mod.
Its been off the car for about 4 months now.
It does not have any drone or rasp at all.
My last car was a 08 TL with aftermarket exhaust and cat deletes. I am very familiar with what drone and rasp sounds like. The G37 with the 2 rear mufflers removed sounds cleaner.
I never got a straight pipe with tips welded on because that would just cost more money and possibly ruin the good sound of the exhaust .
