Hey all,

new to the site so go figure my first post is a question.

My 2011 G37 Sedan Sport is almost out of warranty (july 1st 2015) and I would like to run a straight pipe setup. I plan on REMOVING my RESONATORS and MUFFLERS to get a raw sound. Will i need a tune and has anyone experienced any negatives with this setup? Local exhaust shop will charge me around 180$ to do it and give me back stock parts.

Lol no you will not need a tune. By straight piping the mufflers and resonators you are just changing the sound of the exhaust. You aren't changing anything when it comes to performance therefore you don't need a tune.

Honestly I don't think straight pipe resonator and mufflers will sound good. I would imagine there to be a lot of drone and rasp

 

Yea a buddy of mine's brother has it and It will cause drone and rasp but I am going for that sound. raw sounds better to me than a performance muffler such as HKS etc. Plus its a cheaper alternative to a louder sound for me.

 

AFAIK, the warranty is irrelevant... do it now, do it later. Doesn't affect the warranty.

The resonators and mufflers are there to modulate the sound, you won't need a tune. Now, if you go straight to the shorties with a test-pipe, that should be something worth the noise (eh). And man, are you going to have noise. It's going to be a racket, and it will drone on all the time. And it will sound like a bag of wrenches.

I heard it will most likely throw a check engine light, assuming its the o2 sensors, any way to solve it easily, without having infiniti reprogram anything.

 

Why would you want that awful sound? I'd much rather leave my exhaust stock than drive around sounding like a pesty ricer.

At the end of the day it is your car after all.. Some people just have better taste than others I guess.

 

Can't imagine why you'd CEL on a resonator/muffler delete. The sensors are upstream. Really far upstream, too. Here's a pic of the OEM exhaust after the catalytic converters:

I would go with just a muffler delete but I need something a bit louder than that, but I will admit a full res/muf delete is a little too loud, but to me and (hopefully) the neighbors its ok.

I have just a muffler delete on my 2008 coupe, and it's pretty loud by itself. Couldn't imagine deleting them both lol. Once you start getting above about 2800 rpm, it gets pretty loud, and just continues to get louder and louder. There's a bit of drone, though it is annoying at times, you kinda get used to it. I don't regret it all though. Also be warned of the cold starts. Very loud. Lots of drone.
