How would you secure a toolbox in the trunk?

I keep a toolbox in my trunk with a tire repair kit, inflator/compressor, jumper cables, and several other items. I haven't figured out how to keep it from moving around back there (aside from driving like grandma). Inspection of the trunk hasn't revealed any places that I can attach bungee cords. I'm not going to use the plastic loops for the cargo net, or the cargo net.

I'm also not going to the use carpeted liner. I want it to be metal preferably.

What sorts of ways have you guys secured things in your trunk? As of now, velcro stuck to the bottom of the toolbox is my only lead, but I fear it may grip too well, and will be a pain to pull out

I've used the non slip mat stuff like this
You can buy it in a roll. Used it in my Taurus and Grand Prix for years. Had a bin sitting on it in the corner near the back. Never moved unless I was really hard in corners or braking where it would actually tip/roll. Other than that, I may make a custom fg area just for specific tools for the trunk for my G37. Haven't decided yet. I would be curious as to what anyone else has done, too.

Rochester's works great. I bought one after seeing his. Unfortunately he is still much more organized than I am.

What attaches this to the car?

I've been inspired by this, contemplating how it secures to the car...wondering if Velcro would do it, and then I had my moment.

I could sew Velcro to some straps, and stick those straps to the carpet. Then I can strap the toolbox down. I'm going to run this through my mind. The only issue I see now is what happens when the tool box wants to topple...will it bring the trunk mat with it?

You guys have a lot of junk in the trunk

I have the crappy but free infiniti first aid kit that velcros to the trunk wall, a bag with jumper cables and flares...and the chipmunk volleyball net with 2 quarts of oil, bungee cords, a roll of paper towels and a tire pressure gauge.

Yeah, but I couldn't resist the gravity comment.

Truth is, this model has two velcro-ish strips sewn into the bottom, and it's surprisingly sturdy. Nothing I've ever done with the car has made it budge or flip over. There are all kinds of trunk organizers. Search that phrase on Amazon, and I'm sure you'll find something that suits your needs.

I've got stuff in that organizer, a torque wrench in its case, a blanket and an umbrella. That's it.

I keep the torque wrench wedged between the wall and the organizer. That's really the only thing that could dislodge and bang around. Really ought to put some heavy duty velcro strips on that thing. Damn... that's a good idea.

Thanks, OP!

Why a torque wrench? Do you keep sockets too?

I keep a couple small tools in the jumper cable bag--screwdriver with variety of tips, adjustable wrench, etc.

I toss the torque wrench in if I'm having the wheels pulled somewhere so I can double check them. I have trust issues like that

Ummmm...brain fart.

I'll just use the velcro itself as the strap...no need to sew anything. This calls for more velcro than the other plan to sew velcro onto a strap, but greatly simplifies things.

My only variable now is whether or not the trunk mat will stay put when the tool box wants to roll.

I ll even go as far as keeping a lowpro jack in my trunk lol
hate using the OEM jack.

knock on wood that I haven't had to really use it but the guy who got a flat tire on base was really thankful that I had one made things go way quicker with single digit temps out.

I keep a torque wrench and a 21mm socket in my car for the first 500 miles after a wheel is taken off and replaced. I check the torque 3 times in that 500 mile, then the torque wrench goes back into the garage.

If I need to change a flat, I'll guesstimate the torque when putting the spare tire back on, and check it when I get home.

I've also just now...this very moment, decided to take a torque wrench with me on a long road trip.

Thanks Rochester.
