I'm pretty sure my 2010 only does real time recording. From the manual:

"The system starts playing and recording the
1st track on the CD when the “Start REC” or
“REC” key is selected."

They must have improved it for 2011.

I also read that the hard disc is 9 gb if you have navi, and only 2gb without navi (which I don't have). 2010 wasn't very long ago, but in terms of car electronics, things have changed a lot!

Oh hey, that's a great idea. Certainly a less expensive idea today than it was 5 years ago. I might actually do that. Heck, my cell phone is purely a car-phone. I only take it out to charge it up.

[edit] One of my kids has a 7 year old iPod Nano they stopped using years ago. I sent the whole family on a scavenger hunt, and we actually found it. It's this pretty teal color, with 8 gig of memory. So I charged it up and filled it to the limit with digital albums, then I plugged it into the USB port in my 2011 6MT. I can navigate the iPod exactly the same way I navigate the on-board Music Box.

That's pretty cool. I think I just doubled the capacity of my car's music library, and it didn't cost me a dime.

Thanks, Steve!
You are welcome! Spending 300 bucks on my Ipod touch was a pretty big investment, but I was looking for stereo upgrades at the time, and there are no cheap upgrades. So getting 64 gb of storage, with equalizer and the nice user interface seemed like a pretty good bang for buck.

Adding a sub-woofer to my Bose system was the other upgrade I made.

My 2009 reads the discs much faster than real time. Not 2 mins/disc but no more than 5-7 mins.

That could be; I never actually timed it, other than to take note how it was certainly not doing it in real-time.

Get one of these.

Cruzer Fit USB Flash Drive by SanDisk

Available in capacities up to 64GB. Barely protrudes 1/4" outside the usb port. Update it every 6-12 months and you're set.

Maybe it has capabilities I am unaware of then. Nevertheless, I don't see much value in having 2gb of music on the hard drive when the USB connection has so much more functionality.

I put about 35 gb of music on a 64 gb stick and the car only recognized artists A through J or so. I think it was a bout 12 gb. I confirmed that it was a limitation of the system for the 2010 and earlier - dont know about newer models. Tried formatting and organizing different ways with different folder structures but no success in reading more than around 12 gb.

3.7 vs 3.5
7AT vs 5AT
VVEL ..
Blah blah blah ..

Result is: almost as fast as the 3.5 ( needless to say 3.5 HR sedans are faster than 3.7 coupes already)

Sorry couldn't resist it

I haven't timed it either but am merely guesstimating. Obviously it depends upon the size of the CD.

The value for me- the music is already loaded on there

I did time it on a couple occasions. My car rips CDs at about 6X speed. I usually rip on the way to work (15 minute drive) and most average length albums are complete by the halfway point.

By the Numbers: 2014 Infiniti Q50, G37, and G35 Sedans

I don't think anyone is going to notice a 1/10 of a second here or there

The ugly sliding calipers on the G35 though

I recall seeing a file quantity limitation specified in the owner's manual. I don't remember the exact numbers off hand, but that may be coming into play with 35GB worth of music. Most of my mp3's are 192-320 kb so they take up more than the typical 1MB/min.

Found it. I have the type A. Type B has individual buttons for HVAC vent controls. Type A has the mode button. 5K files.

I don't care about numbers on papers, real life performance only

There are a lot more variables in "real life" than on paper, when the on paper numbers are done with the same procedures, the same equipment, the same track, the same driver, etc. and provide a baseline to comparison.

What do you have to support your claim that the 3.5 is measurably faster than the 3.7?

My 09 sedan is faster than my 07 Sedan, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
