Car wouldn't start

So I ran into my first issue last night with my g sedan. Was going back to my friends house after watching a basketball tournament and I noticed the yellow key light lit on the dash. Now this isn't the first time I had seen the icon but usually it goes away after a few minutes of driving and never gave me any issues with the car when it did poo up. Well this time when we got there I turned the car off, went inside for a while and came back out to leave and tried to start the car and got nothing. Foot on the brake the cars lights came on. Everything was working radio, everything but it wouldn't turn over and this yellow key light just stayed on the dash. Put the key in the slot and still got nothing. Tried turning the steering wheel thinking it was maybe something to do with the steering lock system but that did nothing. Running out of ideas I put the car in drive and then back to park and hit the start button again. It starts.....and the key light goes out on the dash. What do you guys think the issue might be???? I was reading something online were they was talking about the shifter in the car being loose but that didn't help to start their car up but it worked for me. I do notice that the shifter moves around very easily when going over bumps and stuff like that but I never thought any thing of it. Should I take it to the dealer or what???

Have you tried changing the battery in the key fob?

Not yet. I thought that the car would let me know when the battery is low. The car still recognized the key as I was able to lock and unlock it with the fob as well as sound the panic button

It may be completely off base, but a simple $2 solution is where I'd start before moving on to more complex and expensive things. Worst case scenario, you still have a brand new fob battery.

It's been telling you to change the battery in the keyfob, that's what the key light is, the car will not start without a functioning keyfob.

The yellow key light??? I have a 2011 and I thought from other pictures I saw that it would show a battery icon with the meter being low in the center display. I replaced the battery anyway though. But I don't think this was key dob related as the car still recognized the fob as it didn't say no key was present and the car still reacted to all the buttons.

Right that's not the icon I got. It was a yellow square box with a key inside under the rpm needle.

This car is really confusing with all these key icons. I mean there's a red key warning light next to the yellow key warning light. Then the keyfob warning that comes on in the center display and then U got the red car with a key through it icon on the right under the speedo that comes on when it feels like it after I shut the car off.

just taking a stab at this since i have no idea which malfunction light you are actually referring to. but i think the light you see coming on in the cluster may be the immobilizer light. immobilizer is an anti theft feature where it cuts off either the ignition system or fuel for the car.

Hmm, if only there was some kind of reference manual specifically made for the car with explicit instructions on how to use and interpret all the myriad of functions that are built into such a marvelous machine.

Hmmm... if only.

There is

I purchased the four volume paper FSM for my previous 06 G35
It is well over 1000 pages.
Everything you need to know as well as a factory Infiniti tech is in there along with extensive troubleshooting steps with flow charts.

You can search for it on line but the I found the paper version much easier to use as well as having the ability to place paper stickies on certain pages for quick reference

Thanks on the manual tip. I'm kind of lazy to go reach in the trunk and open a book thats only going to give me a general response to what may be the problem im having with the car. I figure the mechanics on this forum would have a better understanding of what the issue might be and can give a more detailed response than a book that just says, intelligent key system malfunction. But hey, guess not.

In other news I had something weird happen last night as well. Was leaving the hospital and went to start the car but had my drivers door still open. When I went to hit the start button I heard a bunch of sparks coming under neath the car and got nothing. Put my foot back on the brake as I was about to hit the start button again but before I could do that it started up. Sounds like maybe sparks flew from the starter??? Don't know, no lights came on the dash so idk. Also I've noticed sometimes if I restart the car right after shut down I will get a screeching sound as if you hold the starter to long after you start the car on a key ignition. This car has only 28k and it starting to annoy me.

Hmmm well it did it again today. This time it turned over once stopped waited 3 seconds and started up again. I had the door close so I don't know if it sparked or not. I checked the battery connections, all the connections on my big 3 upgrade, and checked the starter bolts and everything seems tight. Freakin starter is in a impossible place on these cars lol. Anything else U guys know of that I should check. I know there's a loose connection somewhere on this car.
