Dash Cam

I got a G37x sedan a few months ago and I am looking to get a dash cam to record all of the crazy stuff that happens on the road to protect myself. Anyone have any experience with one?

I've been looking around at dash cam forums and I found the Mini 0803 to fit what I'm looking for. I am in Toronto, Canada, so a Canadian store or some place that ships to me cheaply will be best.

The Mini 0803 I found is here at BlackBoxed.ca: www.blackboxed.ca/products/mini-0803

I was also thinking about getting a dash cam after watching all the Russian crashes on Youtube. They seem to be very popular there.
Before we get in an other war with Russia we should ship them as many free cars as possible. They will kill themselves off driving.

i been using a dash cam for years now. It saved me a few times especially when some ahole cut in front of me and slammed his brakes, then ended up saying that i was tailgating him.

I just bought another dash cam.

For $60 this is an amazing camera. At the moment i am trying to make a power cable so I can run the power from my rear view mirror.

Yup, i have something similar with my cobra detector. Got it from these guys. Worth every penny.

Cobra Stealth Mirror Cord - "Be Safe with Safe-N-Sound1.com"

I will email them and see if they can make a similar wire but with a USB end

That's what I used for my V1.

And you are going to need more that just a USB end. Going to need a voltage clamp or a DC to DC converter (12V car to 5V USB).

Definitely why I'm looking at this dash cam. Prices are in CAD, so it might make sense for people in the States to buy it from here. Looks like they have a good following too on the DashCamTalk forums.

I want the install to be clean, so there are no visible wires and I don't want to use up a cigarette socket.

Hardwiring it with this kit (LK 350 Hardwiring Kit – Black Boxed), is it safe for my car?

I've made a mistake of buying a cheapo cam.. in the end the quality of the video was horrible, it recorded huge files (claiming it was hd) and sometimes didn't record at all. Given the sheer number of cams out there, my advice is not to buy any without seeing customer videos first.

i dont own this one, but given the popularity in the internet forums i'd probably give this one a shot: [TMart] Genuine G1WH w/Novatek NT96650 Processor 1080p Dash Cam - $51.43 CAD - RedFlagDeals.com Forums

Although they're a smaller company, they seem to be well respected in the dash cam community for their amazing customer service.

The Mini 0803 here is pretty popular too. I only reason I'm choosing this one instead of the G1WH is the mount. I don't like suction mounts since they're bulky and fall off easily, especially in the cold Canadian weather. Also, it'll have a much smaller profile. The Mini 0803 slides out easily from the mount too if I need to remove it.

I have two of these cameras. I have been running the one with GPS upfront (behind the mirror) for about 6 months with no issues at all. The video quality is pretty good (not so great at night) and it certainly serves it's purpose. The second one I have is going to be for the back window, but I would like to have them hardwired in series to a master switch. If I am stopped by the fuzz and asked to shut off the car, right now the camera turns off about 10 seconds later. With it hardwired, it will run as long as I want it to. I do have some downloaded video at the house that I can upload to YouTube if you would like an example.

Also, the mapping (Google) and the speeds are exact...it's uncanny how well this camera works for as cheap as it is.

Edit: I guess I have the 0801 version..my bad. It's on Amazon for $100 (w/ GPS) or $77 (w/ GPS)

Is there one with like an internal lithium battery? I don't want to plug one in the cig lighter all the time because I use it to charge my phone.
