Rattling Sound

I hear this metal rattling sound on the passenger side (sounds like its on the inside) and have no clue where it is coming from, has anyone had a similar issue or know where it might be coming from? It is usually heard in higher revs or over un-smooth roads(not heard over bumps)more like a road similar in texture to a rumble strip. any help would be nice, it annoys me

I've had two similar issues with a rattling sound:

First time it sounded like metal chains dragging underneath my car. It happened about two weeks into owning the car. You can imagine my face when that happened ..

Second time was more recent but over normal road surfaces and small bumps I'd hear this metal clinging or rattle.

Both times ended up being the brake shield. First time the brake shield was loose and rubbing on my rotor. Somehow factory didn't install correctly as said by tech. Second time a rock was stuck behind the plate making it loose and rattle against the rotor. Shrugs. Both sound stupid but got them fixed under warranty so whatever.

Easy way to determine this is to go to each brake and try to tap the shield. If it moves you've got a winner. That's how I led the techs in the right direction.

Hope that helps man.

This video should also help explain what I meant by tapping the plate to see if there is any play. Good luck.

Research the forums a bit as well. I'm pretty sure I've read something about an exhaust rattle that comes from underneath the vehicle, which once again easily fixed and dealt with best if you have warranty.

I have the same thing - it's most noticeable when its colder out. I hear it best when idling too.

I have the ark exhaust installed so I figured that could be causing it.

It seems like it's coming around the passenger area, but I can't pinpoint if it's inside or out.

now THAT is strange. you sure its not a seatbelt/window rattle? I'd had both replaced. Only noticed the rattle when it was cold, but the brake/exhaust rattle should be noticeable during any weather condition.

G37 rattle sound - YouTube
This happened to my car right after they changed my oil... going to get it serviced on Sat, hope they take care of it

Was there any problems or did it just need readjustment?

Thanks!

Simple tightening really. Mine had a "rock" behind it which made it out of whack but it took techs minutes to so this lol

It's the passenger side seat-belt, specifically, the piece that resides between the seat and the console (something internal to the design). If you move that piece down such that its lodged securely between the seat and console, the rattle will disappear.

I have bionic hearing, so I've heard this same sound in a half dozen or so 2009+ models (i.e. loaners and current car).

Unfortunately, the dealers I've had look at the issue do not share the same bionic hearing, so I have not been able to get this resolved.
