What kind of tires did you have?

Like everyone else said, good excuse to do a 2010+ conversion!

Hankook, which appear to be more of a performance tire rather than an all-season. I am definitely going to look into replacing those soon with 4 good all-seasons. . .. any recommendations?

Yes. You live in Rhode Island. Use snow & ice tires during the Winter months.

Blizzaks seem to get some of the best reviews IIRC.

Yea, I am definitely going to swap the tires before next winter. There was no way I was going to stop before hitting that truck. He had chains on his tires and stopped pretty abruptly, with Hankooks I knew it was over.

Hmm, so the body shop and insurance guy have asked me the following:

They are saying that there is a minor scratch on my passenger side front rim and they said I have the following options:

1. I can live with the scratch and they will negate my deductible ($250)?
or
2. I can have them replace the rim and pay my deductible. . . . .

Am I missing something or is this normal? This seems strange to me. Any input would be appreciated. My initial though process is to have them leave the rim alone and I can take it elsewhere and get it buffed out for much cheaper than $250. . . .

Also, I been thinking about the 2010 bumper swap and IMO I like the 09' sport bumper with the lip more than the 2010. The only + would be the fog lights IMO.

Refinishing rims usually is about $200 per wheel. I'd pass and go to a shop where they'll cover your deductible like a good friend would.

The General AS-03's on my wife's G37xS are good enough to get us through Colorado winters, but they actually perform pretty well in warm weather as well.

My family is from Montpelier. Scary experience trying to drive there one time from western NY, got stranded in Saratoga where I had to spend the night because 1 inch of snow fell while driving. Nothing like gently applying the brakes and skidding 100s of feet with no control.

I use Michelin X-ice's for the winter. I recommend them.

Or if you want to go the all-season route, Nokian WGR-3's are about the only winter-biased all-season tire I know of. Maybe the only all-season tire with the snowflake/mountain symbol? They get good reviews.

Running Cooper Weather Masters this winter. First time driving them and I can now say this car is on par with my Audi A6 in the snow.
