All true and valid points.

Sometimes people even join this site to hyper-mile their poor mileage sport sedan, or brag about who spends the most money at the dealership on dealer-recommended service charges for their leased G37.

It's a big tent.

Thinking about respectfully giving the G back to my dad, driving my civic for a year or so and then picking up a used 5.0. Certainly not a "nicer" vehicle per se', but definitely a whole lot more of what I'm going for. You can see where and how my level of maturity shines. Hahaha.

I got walked super hard by one last night. It left me like I was standing still.

Certainly true regarding the other reasons people join. I often take offense at those members who believe that if you are not a modder then you have no business being a member here. Of course, to me, modding is not the best part; it’s only interesting reading.

^This. I follow the rule that you don't HAVE to mod your car to be an enthusiast. I would consider myself more knowledgeable on the majority of the automotive industry than 96% of this forum, yet my car is pretty much bone stock nor do I do any work on it. I just enjoy the car the way it was designed from factory to be... I'v experimented and been there done that with G mods and i'v just learned what I like and what I dont. But the thing is I drive a lot of cars whether they are minivans, or pickup trucks or sports cars and can pretty much appreciate everything in some way or another. And that is the kind of enthusiast I am.

At the end of the day, I will sit back and look at the modded up Gs, but it in no way makes me want to do it. I just enjoy seeing what is possible with a particular platform, but it isn't an activity I care to partake in any longer. I just like to drive the **** out of my car and take it with me everywhere whether it be to the grocery store or across the country.

Modding cars is about representing who you are and expressing your personal style. No matter how little or lot you spend, nothing beats a complete stranger throwing you a thumbs up or saying nice car as well as the feeling of completing a do-it-yourself project and being complimented on it.

Same goes for your house, you paint/construct etc. to make it yours and represent your taste.

This is at the heart of why some are offended. My parents have never modded any vehicle unless it held the vehicle together. I caught the bug early as most of my uncles used to drag race at a local track on Sundays when I was a kid and still today. I used to walk around and look at all the crazy cars, engines and even some purely cosmetic modded ones in awe. I understand the various other schools of though as well. Modding or changing something you already enjoy can take the fun out of it for some as well as being able to tell others you've gotten 30 mpg in one of these by driving conservatively. We all have one thing in common, we love our cars.

Because all mass produced cars, even ones as (over)priced as these, are made to fit a dollar value and therefore leave a lot on the table for potential. They also have to at least attempt to satisfy a large customer base, and at times are bothered by pesky standards and laws that the individual person need not concern themselves with.
That being said i don't think the G will age as well as some other datsun products, i dont see people drooling over them 40 years down the road like the original skylines and fairladys.

I have never changed anything on a car, except adding fog lights to a mustang, which didn't come with them. Oh yes, I once added a sunroof to a car many years ago. That didn't work out too well, as it leaked.
