I'm looking at some g35 and g37 sedans with 6mt. I love manual and would not drive an auto.

1st option: 2010 g37 sport 6mt, 34k miles for $22,500, off lease at private dealership (Was in NY)

2nd option: 2010 g37 sport 6mt, 36k miles for $22,000, off lease at private dealership (was in Florida)

3rd option: 2008 G35 sport 6mt, 70k miles for $18,700, one owner at infiniti dealership (was in MS)

4th option: 2012 g37 sport 6mt, 16k miles, no price listed but I'm guessing over 30k at infiniti dealership.

Would you buy an off lease vehicle? I check carfax and the two off lease vehicle had 8 service records each. One is in new york and one is in FL, that one seem better just because it probably was never in snow.

Now only one of these doesn't have warranty left and that's the 70k miles, can you buy additional warranty from infiniti for all of these options? Even the ones not at infiniti dealership? I just care about engine warranty just in case.

Any major problems with these models I should be concern with?

 

Not a huge difference in price from the 35 w/ no warranty and higher miles vs. the 2010s w/ full warranty and a lot less miles. Just a thorough vehicle inspection including extensive test drives should give you a good idea of how the vehicle has been treated. Sure there's a gamble in getting a used vehicle but being a lease really doesn't make it more risky. I've leased several vehicles and always treat & maintain them as if I owned it. The fact that the vehicle has to be returned in good condition keeps "most" people from driving them like maniacs and ignoring service issues. Always some bad apples but that goes w/ used vehicles sold by owners too.

I agree with going for one of the 10s if you can't or don't want to pay the extra for the 12.

I believe infiniti warranty on the powertrain is 6/70.

It's just my opinion. I've never taken a used car to an independent mechanic for inspection. Look the car over, have them put it up on a lift, if it needs any repair or maintenance, have them do it or use it to negotiate down the price.

I have no idea about the infiniti extended warranty. Just realize there is probably a lot of markup on it.

 

Option 1 or 2, whichever is cleaner. Have both inspected unless you can get a good deal on the extended warranty, in which case it's probably not mandatory.

Whatever you do, pay very close attention to clutch feel. Drive as many different Infiniti 6MTs as you can so you know what it should feel like. You don't want a clutch someone has trashed.

Also make sure to check tire wear and breaks. If one of the cars has warped rotors that's a lot of money, even just new pads and a resurface on front and back will be hundreds of bucks. If you need a new set of tires soon, that's over a grand. Stuff like this can make two similar cars selling for the same amount cost very different amounts in the end.

 

i test drove them and they were fine. Clutch was very good.
I have to check the rotors, but both of these were lease vehicle. They don't look as good for a 30k mile car as they should be. I'm guessing previous owner didn't take care of it. I'm waiting for option 2 to get their detail, but there was white spots in a a couple of places.

 

2 weeks ago bought a 2010 G37x Prem/Nav with 35K for $21K. Came off 3yr lease in Long Island according to CarFax. Bought the car in Voorhes, NJ at a private dealer. Best car-buying experience ever, given that I had to involve NYC AG back in 06 when I bought my first G35 at Planet Auto in Long Island City, NY.
Anyway, I have till the summer to get an ext warranty and was wondering if the G-community can offer any insight. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

 

I would lean toward the 2010 from Florida.
Florida would normally have a lot less stop and go traffic then NY, so the clutch should be in better shape.
The roads in Florida are a lot smoother so less wear and tear on the car.
They don't salt the roads in Florida.
That doesn't mean that the NY car isn't as good or a better deal.
How much warranty is left on the 2010's? I have a 2010 and the warranty runs out the first week of March.
I have had zero problems in the 4 years that I have owned my G37.

I would say newer the better, along with lowest miles possible....

 

Unless there was a defect on the clutch, I can't imagine one being in "better shape" on cars with similar miles.

I doubt many people go out of their way to buy a manual G37 that don't know how to drive stick in the first place.

I'm waiting on pricing for the 16k miles option 4. That one is coming off a one year lease in Georgia which is my state.

assuming the '12 is out of your price range, one of the '10s makes the most sense given the relatively minor price difference above the '08. plus, they will have at least some of the powertrain warranty remaining. that covers the big stuff.

while off-lease wouldn't be my first choice, it wouldn't be a deal-breaker as long as the car checks out and was in good/excellent condition. i would never buy a premium vehicle that needed a lot of TLC - that's a sign of neglect. i'll accept that in a project car where i am tearing it apart, but not in a nice daily driver.

have an inspection done to assess mechanical condition and required services. use a trusted independent mechanic familiar with Nissan products, or use a Nissan/Infiniti dealer. whatever suits you best. brakes are not a big deal, unlike what an above poster mentioned. they are not overly expensive and are an easy DIY if they need doing. if all services are up to date then don't sweat the small stuff.

i had to go as far as Maryland to get my 6MT sedan - and i live on the west coast of Canada! i know how difficult it can be to track the right one down...
