Interesting. Wasn't it if the first number in the name was even it was to be a coupe (Q60) or if odd then a sedan (Q50)?

I guess the supposed Q30 is already going against that, as it is a hatch-back.

if you guys can make sense of that logic you're more astute than i. if this is true, the Q50 must be one of the shortest-spanning nameplates of all time.

i guess we'll just have to hang on and endure the wild ride. who knows where the brand will actually be in ~2-3 years when i'm looking to make a change. i was hoping for an improved drivetrain in the ~'15-'16 "Q50" with an MT model. we'll see...might have to look elsewhere.

Maybe they figured that since they were renaming the Coupe Q60 for only one more year before the redesign, that it would be OK to rename the Sedan. But honestly, part of me feels a little insulted for some reason. Not sure why, but I do.

If they call it a Q40 then they need to shove a 4.0L V6 under the hood somehow. The VQ40VHR has a nice ring to it.....

My thoughts exactly. I also feel it's an affront to the preeminent vehicle that saved Infiniti from the brink of irrelevance (not to mention extinction) 12 years ago, and has built a strong following while garnering unanimous praise throughout the automotive world for over a decade.

I never regarded any Infiniti as a vehicle I would purchase before the 2002 G series. Now that they have absorbed it into their ghastly nomenclature, it appears that I have been given notice not to bother shopping any of their other offerings after the G lives out its final days cloaked under a camouflaging nameplate.

I have driven the Q50 and it simply has no soul. It is comfortable, but docile. I deemed the last 2 G generations as consummate as the e36 and e46 BMWs I've owned. It evokes passion and fun and actually makes me look forward to my commutes. It is clear that Infiniti is moving in a different direction and I'm not sure why. I understand that stagnation is death and change is necessary, but to abandon the essence of your most successful, accomplished, and celebrated offering (case study: "New Coke") is just beyond me..

That's it! That's the perfect, concise description of the Q50's main problem. It's an observation that's admittedly subjective, and non-quantifiable, but that's it exactly.

No soul. Well said.

I feel you. They're out to make the G the red headed step child of the brand it seems. Not a good way to encourage customer loyalty IMO, drop the price $5k, offer ridiculous leases, keep the old model going under the new one. If I hadn't planned to keep this car for 8 years till my extended warranty runs out I'd be real ticked.

I don't like it either since, as others mentioned, the G saved Infiniti and brought respect to the brand. I had a G20 back in the day when I was going through grad school- great car but NOTHING like a current G35/37.

I do understand why they dropped the price so much. Clearly they can still make $$$ at the new price and they need to differentiate it from the Q50. They want the Q to do what the G did and more. The early reviews are not good though. Imagine if they still offered the S package on the G? You'd have a bunch of people wanting to buy G's over the "new" Q.

On the other hand, it doesn't make sense to sell a "G" next to a bunch of Q's. This was probably the logic that won out.

My thoughts exactly....My last passion I had for a car was my e36 M3. I'd drive it to just drive it....turned off the radio and just drove. When I turned her off and got out at the end of the day...I couldn't wait to get back in her the next morning. I had a '04 GTO and my '02 WRX after that, but they never really gave me that same feeling....I'm actually looking at another e36 M3 sedan in Estoril Blue/Dove Grey...how sweet would it be to have that and my Lakeshore Slate/Stone G sitting side-by-side in my garage?

I liked it when a car's numbers corresponded to engine displacement. Infiniti's new scheme seems to correspond to the cost of the car in thousands of dollars...

We just bought a new G because it looked like it would be our last opportunity. But I guess it's good if they keep building and selling this reliable machine a bit longer.

I'd like to see what bells and whistles they're going to tack onto the Q40. Like it's great they're keeping the G37 around and rebranding it as the Q40 but I'd like to see some newer options available. LED side view mirrors, around view camera, front bumper sensor things.

Doubtful. And I wouldn't hold your breath for a Q40S 6MT.

It does not matter what the "G" is called or where it is positioned relative to the Q50.

Enjoy the new lower price, and "enthusiast" driving dynamics.
