I know. We decided having an extra seat for the nanny and grand parents was worth it, so we just kept it so wifey and I don't need to take ours out.

 

I don't know if there is another reliable Japan made sport sedan with 6MT and RWD, front mid-engine btw. ;-)

I got a '08 G35S 6MT sedan, its cheaper, lighter, still quick and can fit child seats in the back like the G37S. ;-) I am one of the few (if any) that prefer the looking of '08 vs. later sports front bumper. I do wished the fog light on '08 is more functional, but I don't live it an area where I use the fog light a lot.

But the VQ37HR (loaner with automatic) does feel smoother and combined with less chatter from the clutch / transmission, make the car felt more up scale. G35S still have pretty good brakes (13" rotor front and back), but not as nice as the ones on G37S.

What I liked about the G sedan is that the rear door can be opened wide, up to almost 90 degree. Its great for getting the child seat in and out of the car. But the trunk and the trunk opening is still on the small side. (I got the 6 disc changer which eats up space and opening as well.)

Overall the G37S is a nicer car, but for more money. You can figure it out if its worth it or not.

The '07-'08 TL-S 6MT was nice, I almost bought one instead of the G sedan. I really dig how it looks and the interior is very nice. But at the end of the day, its a FWD (not that there's anything wrong with it, but I prefer RWD for track use, and yeah, I track my G from time to time as well) and the rear seat also doesn't fold down (just like the G sedan, which gives me no benefit in choosing the TL-S).

IS350 is auto only, and more luxury than sports. If they offer a true "sports mode" with fully defeatable traction control in IS350, then I probably would have gone with it. IS250 6MT is not in the same performance class as even the G35S sedan.

And than you got your usual European sports sedan for more money to buy and than more money to maintain. I even thought about G8 and STR8 Charger. :-)

But I prefer the reliability track record of Japanese made cars. And at the time of my purchase, the '08 model was at the right price segment for me.

 

good stuff. i am either going to have to bump up my budget, go with an 08 G, or roll the dice on a bimmer.

another factor is, whatever i get i will be keeping for several years. this wont be another trade in 2 years. ive had my truck for 3 years and really have no desire to actually get rid of it, so i think i have finally cured the car itch to a manageable extent. i still love getting new cars but im tired of 500 dollar car payments on top of a 2K mortgage

Just keep the faith, spread your search out a bit and you should find the perfect G for your needs and budget. There's several members here that have crossed several states to pick up just what they wanted. Good luck in your search, and if you do roll the dice on a used out-of-warranty Bimmer you will be in my prayers (trust me I've been there).

 

tuff call, I love my '07 g35x auto...I have always enjoyed manual vehicles most of my life but since I have had a kid I hate to say I'm digging the auto more and more every day. Plus if the woman needs to take the car she can. Does your wife know how to drive stick?

 

I'd love to have another MT as a DD but since my wife uses it daily around town and hates MTs it's not going to happen, but when the time comes in a few years I will be getting my impractical 2 seater w/ MT and I'll be designated chauffeur And probably another AT sedan for her
The ATs are still pretty enjoyable and less to worry about and fast on the upshift
Another bonus is if you valet your car alot (we valet in Vegas about 10x a trip and 4 trips a year) always nervous about valet drivers w/ MTs.

 

I look at it differently...why should I sacrifice driving enjoyment on the off chance my wife would need to drive my car instead of hers?

She has her car, I have mine. If something happened to her car, I'd rather just rent a car for the small amount of time she would not have a car.

I agree with a lot of this.

4DR, 6MT, RWD with decent power and sportiness with a decent design and great reliability/low maintenance. Can't ask for much more, esp with a very attractive pricetag. Sure and S4 or 335i would be cooler and probably more fun, but that extra benefits comes at a cost (and to me, that cost outweighs the benefits)

OP, I hope you're able to sit tight and wait for a 6MT sedan. This model really does make a large difference in driving experience, and I think if you settle for less you're doing yourself a disservice. With the recent MSRP grop of the '14 G37, I think you'll see some pulling on the 6MT sedan price in the secondary market as well (even though 6MT was dropped for '14)

OP, I was in the same boat as you earlier last year. My firebird was dying and I was just spending too much money to constantly fix the SES light crap. I was looking for something kid friendly since I have a 4-year old son, wanted a 4-door car and a a manual car. The list for a MT is very very small. I also wanted something that is naturally aspirated not turbo or anything. For the best looking car it was the Infiniti. I had asked about 10 of my co-workers who currently owns an Infiniti and 3 which owns a G said the LOVED it. Searching through the forums I couldn't really find anything bad about them. In mid-June I bought a brand new G37S 6MT Sedan for about 37k out in California. I only drove it for 5 days before I left, but I love it. Just like everyone else, the clutch take some time to get used to (in a way.) It's a performance clutch and I bought the RJM Performance clutch to get it switched out when I get home. From what everyone says it's the best mod for the car. I hope this helps your decision with buying a G or not.
