Newbie Here: Enhance sound w/o catback?

New owner ('11 white G37S sedan)... was active with my RSX and utilizing ClubRSX.com.

Not sure I want to go full cat-back anymore, but would like to try and keep the G's unique sound, just make it a little more noticeable inside and out.

Stillen CAI? and ? Anything else that should be combined to get that effect without the cat-back dominating sound?

So relieved to find an active board to be a part of for my new ride!

You could always start with intakes and hfc. Personally I'm going to go with R2C intakes then Berk HFCs. Depending on the sound I may go with GT Haus Meiserchaft tail pipes.

Btw, welcome to the forums!

Thanks! Never having had HFCs before, I inquired a little bit just now. Being in Cali, sounds like I wouldn't pass their smog, or what is the deal with that?

Those GT Haus Meiserchaft exhausts are works of art, but will cost some coin.
Another option would be the Tanabe Axle back setup, not a dramatic change in volume but will give it a bit deeper tone and has a nice clean look w/ good build quality. Might even find some used sets in the Private classifieds for nice deals.
Welcome to the site, congrats on your new G

They sure are expensive, I was quoted $1,645 shipped for a set of new oval tailpipes. Eventually I'd like to have a full exhaust set up by them but it'll be a while.

Take a look around the forums and see what other members have done set up wise and see if there is anything that meets your criteria.

If you're not going to replace the OEM CBE, get a 200 cell-count HFC, like BERK. Leave the rest of the exhaust alone. If you want more still without replacing the CBE, any intake kit will do for sound. Even more so if you remove the sound deadening liner on the underside of the hood.

I'm going with z1 maf tubes, k&n drop in filters and removing the hood pad. Hopefully it'll growl a little more.

2nd step would be the tanabe axle back with oem tips.

But I'm looking for really subtle changes

Muffler delete pipes make the car sound like it has an expensive exhaust

Well, I bit the bullet and went ahead with ordering Ark cat-back and R2C cold-air anyways. Loved the sound of my last car's cat-back too much, I guess.

Thank you for the input. Wasn't schooled at all on some of the other elements you guys were mentioning, so now will inspire me to educate myself more. Thanks.

I was looking for the same thing. Enhanced sound inside and out but not too loud. I feel like I accomplished that with a Tanabe axel back and an R2C intake. The result is a deeper tone from the outside when 3,000 rpm's on up and louder on the inside when WOT. I also installed both myself which was a lot of fun.

Both were purchased from Michael with Tunerz store who is a vender on this forum.

That was quick. R2C is warm air, BTW.

Nice pickup, you really aren't one to waste much time, those ARKs are a very nice quality set, and can't go wrong w/ that intake either. OK, you're like one day into your membership here, I'm really wondering what you're G is going to look like in a week or two~
