That does help quite a bit. I'm just wondering REALLY how much more you're getting out of a manifold - it can't be that much. Maybe 5-8HP? I've read the numbers across many threads and am just at a halt trying to figure out the justification for a new manifold.'

Yet another decision to be made - decisions and I don't get along....

Yep. Connor's Takeda intake was very appealing to me, particularly when painted. I'm convinced now that I'd get the Takeda over the Stillen Gen3 before getting the car tuned. And I think I'd go the extra step of widening the air inlets to support it, rather than jamming the couplers in there.

And I'm with you on the drive-shaft. It's a mod that just doesn't interest me. The argument about reduced overall weight is minimal, and the argument about reduced inertial weight seems overblown. It's a real performance mod, kind of in the way a light-weight crank pulley is a real mod... just doesn't seem that big of a deal.

But I say that today. For sure I'll change my mind in about 3 years.

Hey John, did you ever get a chance to find the brand name or a link to those reverse LEDs?

Ah, nope. I just emailed my buddy in Canada to see.

But you know, Diode Dynamics... can't go wrong with them.

I have the DD reverse LEDs right now but it bothers me that when they aren't illuminated that you can see yellow through the lense. I was hoping to find a set that are silver and much less noticeable when they're not illuminated. I like then otherwise.

That same thing happened to me on my last car. I had a beautiful incandescent reverse bulb when lit, but when it was unlit the blue tinged bulb made my reverse lens blue. It was very strange looking. So I had to ditch them.

Your problem isn't the bulb, though, because LED. It's the plastic housing. So get out the white model paint and a little paint brush. Problem solved. Unless those are the emitters.

We have other options available, like the XP bulbs that have CREE style LEDs, less yellow, yet incredibly bright

Research

The yellow is the conversion layer, which all white LEDs have. It's how white is made

I tried taking a sliver sharpie to the outward facing side but I think it affected the light output. I was hoping to find some like their license plate LEDs that have minimal yellow.

Thanks Nick. I'll check them or when I get home.

Unfortunately that's the way are cars are ... none of the street legal NA mods give much bang for the buck. 10hp here, 8 hp there. It seem like if you did test pipes (not legal), catback exhaust, long tube CAI, manifold and a tune they all add up to 30 or 40 whp ... at a cost of several thousand $.

Have same issue! Really does stick out like a sore thumb (although I'm still prob the only one to notice), for some reason it hasn't really bothered me much

All that is correct. At the expense of purchasing breather mods, plus a tune, I'll be at ~$2500 (not including a manifold). Maybe within the next few years, I'll dish the $$$ for a supercharger system, maybe.

I found a shop in MD that I think I can trust with an EcuTek tune more than the "Master tuner" here in Manassas, VA. They haven't done much with the G/Z platform, but more Mazda, Subaru, Scion stuff with EcuTek. At least this shop in MD has tuned 10 GTRs with EcuTek and all of the vehicles mentioned above. One thing the tuner specifically told me is that he will be able to tune it just right to straighten out the transmission and make it not act like a PMSing teenaged girl.

Nick,

I have your Stage 3 (brightest) LEDs for the interior, license, and reverse lights but the reverse still aren't bright enough compared to the OEM bulbs. Do you have newer products? I'm also looking for high output yellow fog LEDs as well.

From what I've seen, the best bang for buck are long tube headers with resonated test pipes, stillen gen3, and catback of choice (2.5" or better and a decent sized resonator). Then tune it...330whp+ on a good day.

From Nismo 370Z Bolt-On Upgrades |
Aaron’s Nismo Z34 has Stillen Gen 3 Intakes, Fast Intentions Long-tube Headers, and Fast Intentions Catback. Once all the upgrades were done a tune was in order to maximize the potential of the modifications.
