Intelligent Key Replacement $$$

Hey Guys,

First post ever and I'm glad to join the G37 club. Just bought a slightly used 2013 G37 Sedan in Blue Slate. Unfortunately, it only came with one Intelligent Key

Since there is no back-up key, I would be screwed if this key ever malfunctions, is lost, stolen, dropped in toilet, etc. So I'm shopping around to get a spare.

The local Infiniti Stealership quoted me....get this...$306.11 with programming!!!!!! I pretty much told them to get bent.

I've read that you can get them programmed and have your key cut for way cheaper at your local locksmith. So I plan on doing that. Couple of questions I'm hoping you guys can answer:

1.) I see these key fobs sold on ebay. Is it OK to buy from eBay?

2.) Is there a difference in the intelligent keys between the 2013 G37 and earlier years? The 2008-2013 key fobs look identical, but when I tested for compatibility on the ebay sites, it seems like the 2013 Key fobs have a different part#, they use 285E3-JK65A, while the 2012 and earlier Key Fobs have a part# of 285E3-JK62A.

Are they the same thing? As a 2013 owner, would it be ok for me to use the 2012 key fobs? They look EXACTLY the same, but the part#'s are different.

Thank you in advance for your help. I did search to see if this issue has been asked before and didn't see it. I apologize if it's been asked before.

Thanks!

Welcome

A 2013 G37 is a $40k+ vehicle that comes with two key fobs when purchased at a dealer. Whoever sold you the vehicle should have provided two key fobs as part of the purchase.
You should have insisted the seller provide the missing second key fob.
Go back and ask for it and if they don't have it ask them to obtain one and pay for it.

Just my $.02

@TURNandBURN13:

Yes, its okay to buy key fob from ebay. My 2009 came with only one key. I got a fob off of ebay for $35 and had one of the infiniti dealers cut the key and reprogram the fob for $110 after shopping around.

I have had the fob for more than a year with no issues.

You might want to try a Nissan dealer. I read on the forum that Nissan dealers are able to reprogram the Fob for infiniti cars and they charge way less.

Good luck.

Me too!

I don't trust ebay. Too many scams out there.

Usually if you buy cheap you buy twice.

I went here to buy my key fob. www.autotransponder.com
Then I went to my local locksmith to have it cut and programmed to my car. They charged 90 bucks. Done.
