What does this part do?

I got my G37x a few weeks ago and of course in my first week of getting the brand new car, I end up running over a huge dead deer while driving to upstate NY (long story) . At the time I didn't notice any damage to the car but today I noticed a circular black part dangling from the exhaust tubing. Can anyone tell me what this part actually does? (I've circled the part in question in the photos below). Is it something that is essential that I need to replace? Thanks for your help.

I believe that is a tuned vibration damper for NVH purposes.

Thanks!

Now...is there a "go to" website that sells OEM infiniti parts for a good price? I know when I owned an acura, there was an acura dealership in FL that sold parts at a discount and had every part imaginable.

Infinitipartsusa.com they have parts you normally would get at a dealership and the prices are great too!

Orderinfinitiparts.com is my go to OEM online site. Cheaper than infinitipartsusa.com and great service. Cheap shipping and no tax too.

Honestly they are both just as good... but I found infinitipartsusa.com better at some point because IMO the website seems more user friendly and everything is more clear and I think there are some parts that orderinfinitiparts.com doesnt have like the factory painted oem rear deck spoiler I just installed ( ordered from infinitipartsusa.com ) but as they say each to his own and I'm sure I will use orderinfinitiparts.com at some point...

Vibration Dampners

Skeener is correct. There also is one prior to each muffler. Don't know exactly HOW they work, but what the heck...Infiniti does

Thanks so much for all the info everyone! I got a chance to go underneath the car and look at it today and luckily only the round rubber thing had broken off without damaging anything else. Replacing it should be pretty easy.

Drive safe and watch out for HUGE road kills!!
