Share your brake research!
I've been thinking about alternatives to the akebono brakes, and wilwood did come to mind, but I would want a 4 pot front and 2 pot rear.

Once I actually get them installed and get a little seat time w/ them I'll do a writeup. A 4pot/4pot would be your only real option (or a 6/4) if you go Wilwood or most of the other aftermarket setups (w/ the exception of the super sick 8, 10, or 12 potters). You'll get the same bias and proportioning as long as you get the correct piston diameters front & rear. Plus a 4 pot in back will provide more even clamping force on the brake pads.

What's the cost difference between Wilwood and Akebono calipers?

Love to see you start a trend here with brake upgrades.

The Wilwood calipers I got were about $50 less than Akebonos, but mine are about the most basic caliper Wilwood offers that uses the bigger Superlite pads, most will be at least as much or twice as much as Akebonos. I'm also using S rear rotors so I can use the OEM parking brake, the rear 4 pot calipers w/ built in parking brake cost quite a bit.

Since I fab'd my own brackets I'm building this BBK for about what a Akebono set would run. If I paid a machine shop to do the work it would add another $300 to the bottom line.

Stoptechs are about as much as the comparable Wilwoods, both front kits w/ 2pc rotors are about $1700-2000 FWIW. Things get crazy expensive when you get into Brembos and AP racing products, about double the Wilwood/Stoptech prices and much more than that w/ certain extra features/pots.

There's been more than a few mods to his 2009 G37, RWD Journey. Lots of DIY work, and even a full-on accident repair. It's a nice, personalized collection of reasonable modifications, on a beautiful, respectable car. I think that's why I feel somewhat sympathetic to his values, because most of the time it's mods made with practical decisions.

Blah blah blah

Anyway, I got to thinking today: what next for Newt? For the car, that is. I suppose I could have PM'd him, but an open forum is more fun.
I totally agree with Rochester. Blnewt has been a kind friend with TONZ of knowledge that he shares with all. Kinda reminds me of the myG37 site version of an all knowing Buddhist monk.

What's next for me is prepping the new akebono brakes I scored from sicko for custom paint, awaiting the arrival of my FI LTH's, picking out some D&S rotors, and hopefully getting some more vert owners on the FI CBE group buy bandwagon.

I'm also planning on doing a bit of engine bay dress up. I figure as long as I'm painting the calipers I nights as well get some extra paint time ya know

Lol, so now I gotta come up with something
I'm building a new heavy duty wooden swingset for my wife's in home day care including custom fab'd brackets and swing mounts.
Does that count for anything??
j/k
engine bay is in dire need of help so that's getting moved to the front burner.

Quite a stretch between mods, but the old guy is still kicking with a new set of resonated test-pipes.

Lol John, I suppose I've got to come up w/ something, so MAYBE those motor mounts will be added. I also really need to get that back set of Wilwoods together. Those base back brakes are screaming for paint (and look SOOOO small) and might as well just get the fronts matched up, it's been too long.
