some questions for expert modders

i have about a 1700 dollar budget to use on mods for my engine only and i have a couple of questions to ask about what you guys think the best way to go is.
1) is getting a turbo even possible with that kind of budget/ is it even worth it?
2) if i were to get an exhaust system what kind of power differences would i notice? and are there any that are not insanely loud but still maintain a nice sound when u push the gas?
3) other than these two mods what may be a smarter way to use the money on the engine if i already have an intake and am looking to take it to the next level.

Another thing to mention is that my 2013 g37 sedan is a lease i need to have enough money to buy install and uninstall in the future any mod i do now. After dipping my rims and smoking my tail lights i want to move on to a mod that will really change the performance of my car which is why im asking u guys these questions. any advice is appreciated but ill just mention one more time that im trying to keep the car as quiet as possible when im driving normally but when i want to drive fast id like to hear a nice sound.

thanks so much for any help or advice

Hey ave223. 1,700 is a good chunk of change however it is not enough for a turbo kit. Those run about 6K plus a 1-2K for installation. If its a lease I would stick with easy bolt ons. For the most power get some test pipes or high flow cats, cold air intake, motordyne intake manifold and an uprev tune. And if you can afford it or find a used cat-back exhaust. That set up will be good for about 310HP to the wheels

+1 to what has been said already. $1,700 doesn't go a long way with performance mods on these cars, you'll have to look for used exhaust and intake setups

Our cars are advertised at 330 hp to the crank, which is around 264 hp to the wheels.

You really won't notice a ton of power difference with an exhaust and intake. If you do the bolt on's as mentioned earlier you'll see the most gain. If I were in your shoes I would do FI HFC's, motordyne intake manifold and swift springs and if you have money left over a set of sways.

There are AWD specific exhausts, not all will fit the X. You'll have to do some research to see what parts will and won't work with your X.

Bolt on engine/power mods are pointless in my opinion on the G37, unless you are going FI. You do not have the budget for that, and am not sure I would even bother on a leased car. Maybe I am just over doing horsepower mods after modding my previous car, a 2004 STi.

Id vote for sway bars, springs, or performance tires as a better use of funds.

Best of luck.

^ + 1000. forget the engine mods. not worth it for a few bolt ons. go suspension and tires. those mods will show you better "gains" than any intake/exhaust mod. tires alone will make a huge difference. sways are next best, springs third. plus, these are easy to uninstall when your lease is over.

You think 50whp is pointless and not worth it for a few bolt ons?

^ 50whp is highly optimistic, but that's not the point. the G comes with plenty of power out of the box. unless you live life a 1/4 mile at a time, a bit more power is of marginal use on a daily driver. where the spirited driving enthusiast will really notice improvements with the G is on handling prowess. being better able to harness the G to fully exploit the already stout powertrain is a more useful "gain". if a guy was to take a nice drive up/down his favourite twisty road, improved handling will prove to be more of an asset than will an extra 15, 20, 25 real-world horsepower.

the OP has the AWD, which lacks a lot of the suspension (or other performance) upgrades of the S, plus it likely has the crappy RS-A tires. there is no question he is best served by addressing those issues first. like they say, power is nothing without control.

plus, sways and tires are extremely easy to swap out at the lease end. they are also economical. $1k will get a killer set of tires and sways. then if his heart is really set on a sound mod, he can throw on an intake for gits and shiggles.

just my $.02.
