My point was about the sales strategy of farming brand loyalty. There's a suspicion here that INFINITI is expanding their market while sacrificing a measurable segment, but that it's a net gain.
I am not coming to this particular conclusion. My thinking is the Q50=G37++.

It would be all kind of fun if someone representing that intent were to make themselves known as a forum member.
I'm sure that marketing departments read these forums. As I said, I know first hand there are web aggregator businesses that deliver this kind of electronic content. That said, it's not unusual for a company to authorize an individual to sign on to a forum in an attempt to help a customer situation.

You and I have come to completely different conclusions, but my POV is based on owning the 6MT Sport Sedan, and yours is based on owning the AWD.

So... we're both right.

This is also silly but bare with me. Infiniti is kind of demoting the G37 to a lower status, so this is my plan:

Nissan axes the Maxima effective immediately. The G37 (they'll have to call it something different) replaces the Maxima in the Nissan line up as their top sedan. The 4DSC actually has meaning since it should still offer a 6MT and be RWD. Thoughts?

  • AFAIK, Nissan will not be deleting the Maxima.
  • The G37 design is 7 years old already.
  • The 6MT is no longer being manufactured.

But I like the 4DSC idea... for obvious reasons.

Is the 6mt your daily driver? How do you deal with the snow in Rochester? I used to live up there and put snows on my RWD vehicle. But I must prefer my AWD as implemented in the G as I get the best of both worlds.

As far as a manual, meh. I would own one again, but not for my daily driver...way to much congestion to make it an enjoyable ride.

Yes it is. But I work out of my home (mostly), and only put about 7K miles a year on this, and my previous DD.

The 6MT has a VLSD rear differential. But primarily I deal with snow by using snow tires. Bridgestone Blizzak LM-20.

Ahh well I put 18K a year on my DD, but I can swap cars. AWD is must as I'm through will RWD and snows. AWD does just fine. I'll give up on a little to get much more convenience...plus it helps in wet roads as well.

Interesting turn in the discussion, but I'm sure you know that 2WD w/snows is far safer and more efficient than AWD with AS tires. If either of my cars had AWD, I'd still put snows on them.

The right tire for the right conditions, regardless of how many corners are connected to the drivetrain.

You know what helps more in wet roads? 3-season tires.

Actually, no I didn't. I remember one winter morning a Merc with snows barreling down a non-plowed road, couldn't keep the car straight, slipping and sliding. I had no issues in my G. For me, case closed.

So would I, if I lived in Rochester or Buffalo. Actually I would buy a 4wd with a locking diff.

This is a never ending debate. My own experience with RWD, RWD with snows, 4WD and AWD, indicates AWD is quite fine. Remember this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_2010_North_American_blizzard I drove to work in my Subaru on A/S over unplowed roads with up to 15" of snow. It's true snows on RWD is needed....not needed AWD (imo) unless you live in some sort of a snow belt.

But I think we both digressed a bit.

Actually not opinions, experience. I will grant you snow tires provide a specific pattern to help with navigating in the snow...but given when it snows down here if A/S didn't do their job, there would be a huge spike in the fatality rate; roads would be a mangled mess. Given that hasn't happened it has to be people understand how to drive their fwd and awd vehicles with A/S in the snow. Only stubborn RWD car owners have issues.

See ya' in another debate.

The local Infiniti dealers are offering $9k in cash purchase incentives on new '13 g37 sedans. Just out of curiosity I asked for a quote on a 6mt sedan. I would be tempted if the deal worked out. But, alas, no 6mt sedans anywhere in Canada so I'm out. same problem I had back in '10 when I was looking for one. Of course the dealer reminded me that both the '14 g37 and Q50 will not offer a manual sport model. I'm guessing we won't see a manual until '16 when the power train gets an update. A least one can hope.

^I have a bad feeling than the 6MT will stay in Euro markets, but hoping along with you, for the sakes of the enthusiasts in our community. Crazy how 6MT sedans are already exhausted in Canada (unless the dealer doesnt want to bother trading/transporting one and just lied to you)

Not sure how it is north of the border, but I think 6MT sedans cn still be had in the $35-$36k range, unrivaled value IMO

Yeah, $36k for a 6mt G37 is nuts for us up here. Ours come in at $55-57k after tax in BC. That is if there were any left. g37x or xS make up almost all the inventory so I wasn't that surprised to hear that no 6mt sedans were in stock.

Any word or pics on the 2015 G37

So from what I have read online, the next G37 will be coming out in the summer of 2014 as a 2015 model. It will be built on the new Mercedes C-class frame. It will be unveiled at the 2014 auto-show. Of course the salesman at the infiniti store says I should buy one now because the price on the 2015 will be higher and there will be far less inventory of the 2013 to choose from by then. I was wondering if anyone out there has any additional info on the upcoming g sedan. My plan is to wait till I see what the new model looks like and based on that decide if to buy in the next few months or wait it out till the summer for the release...ANY THOUGHTS?
