New Guy Here

Hi all,

I just picked up my 2009 G37xS today at my local Infiniti dealer. It's Red over the Stone interior with only 46K miles. Since it wasn't put into service until April 2010, I've got warranty until next year. So far, I'm LOVING the car. It's replacing my beloved 2004 Acura TSX that I bought with only 4 miles on it. The AC just went last week, it's been burning oil, and the state inspection was due so it was time to put it out to pasture. It's interesting, but I actually feel somewhat shortchanged since I only got 150K miles out of it. Nevertheless, it was a great car and did me well.

I was actually "this" close to buying a brand new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I couldn't find a color combo with the right options that I liked and didn't want to wait for a '14 to get built to my specifications. Virginia summers are too hot to tolerate without AC! That led me to the G. My brother has a '11 G37xS and loves his so it made it easy to pull the trigger.

As you can see on my signature, we're already an Infiniti owner. My wife loves her QX56. It's a great truck for our 3 kids (8,5,3) and dog and does well on the beach. Plus it sure as hell beats a minivan! I'm more of a car guy. My 2nd car was a 94 G20 stick- loved that car.

A few questions-

1- Has anybody added fogs or LED lights on the lower bumper?
2- Can you change out the nav display to get the newer setup found on 2010-13's?
3- Tint suggestions? I feel "naked" in the G without tint so I want something to darken it. Nothing limo-like or something that might attract too much attention.

Welcome to the forum! Not sure about your first two questions, but regarding the tint, I like having around 20% on my cars. Formula One, Huper Optik makes good film, there are many others, but those are the ones I had experience with.

Regarding fogs, your fog light are located in the head light housing. If course you can add LEDs to the bottom portion of the bumper to make day time running lights, but I'm not sure if someone on here has done it.
With the nav you can change it out, some one has done it on here but honestly it's a lot more trouble and costly than its worth. If it's that big of deal then just buy a 2010+.

Thanks for the responses!

I saw the fogs in the headlights but just don't like that look. I'm probably going to look at adding fogs or more likely an LED strip in the lower fog light housing.

Thanks for the nav info. I didn't get a newer version b/c I wanted xS, loved the color combo, and wanted to move fast. It's beach season and we spend a ton of time at our beach house. I'm "too busy" at the beach to car shop.

Welcome to the site, sounds like you've got a nice history w/ Infiniti

As far as the DRL/Fogs in the bumper, I've got this DIY, but rather than using a holesaw I would buy the lights, make a cardboard template then cut w/ a dremel, the holesaw makes for a good fit, but not a perfect fit, w/ the template you can get them perfectly flush w/ no gaps.
My current bumper got dinged so I'll be doing this all over again on my new bumper next week. I love the look and get a lot of positive compliments on them. The method I use to hold them to the bumper has also kept them tight and secure from day 1. If you have any further questions shoot me a PM.

Good point, w/ the template it should but not having a sport bumper myself there could be issues, should be enough clearance though.

OP, if blnewts diagram doesn't work you could do what redpit did in this thread, this would be the look I would go for if I was to add DRLs to my G.

THIS is exactly what I was looking at doing. Simple but should fit into the stock lower location on the bumper. I'll contact this member and see what he used.

Although I do like what binewt did. Those look fantastic and I'm sure blow up the road with light.

Thanks all! I'm looking forward to a nice relationship with the car and this community. I'm stuck with the QX for the next 5 days since we took a long weekend at the beach house. The wife was dying b/c I spent Thurs night up prepping the G for my Zaino treatment. The swirls are killing me!

Sounds like your G is in good "swirl-free" hands, I think you'll find this site a grerat place to find many uses for your cash, but hey, they can print more right?

So far so good here. This seems like the only G specific forum so I'll be here daily. I've already learned a ton. I don't plan too many mods, but you never know. I've been on the For Sale section

My brother has the same exact car- just Black/Black and a 2011. He loves it and says it's the best car he's ever owned.

I do love detailing the vehicles- it's very cathartic and I love admiring the results. I'm not handy but I can run a PC and slop on some Zaino!
