From Superbike to G37

How's it going fellas!

Is there any G37 owners out there that went from a sportbike to G37 or own both? How you would compare riding to a sports car? I have never driven a car with more then 300hp, so I don't know if it is still possible to get the same rush and freedom you feel with a sportbike or at least something close to that on a track.
I am about to have a newborn and I can't decide if I should get a sports car or just keep my motorcycle and buy a cheap sedan or suv. Take note that I already own a 4 door tacoma but we just need another 4 door. Also I hate ricers so please don't recommend me to get a civic or something stupid. Thanks in advance!

Hey Jive, I don't post a lot on here, but do read posts often. I have a 2010 G37xS and still have my '99 R1. In my experience, no you will not get nor come close to "the same rush and freedom you feel with a sportbike," especially if you had been riding on a track. I've not found any cage that can provide that feeling without considerable expense and/or modification. With that being said, I do like my G, but it definitely doesn't have the feel of a speed machine. I don't think it's so much any deficiency in horsepower, but rather an inability to efficiently transfer the available power to the road. The 7AT in my G is dreadful and my closest dealer is clueless about how to update it's software. Perhaps a 6MT would get you closer right out of the box. A newborn does change things though, and while it may not be that same rush of speed, holding and raising your newborn will give you a plethora of rushes equally as thrilling as your best ride...

No comparison. I currently ride sport and my G does not compare to my bike. 2 wheels > 4 wheels always! From throttle response, open road freedom to leaning into a corner, it is like comparing a boat to a jet ski. I love my g, but it cannot replace my bike. Get the sedan G or Q. same power plant as the coup, but a bit more family friendly.

Come on Dude you knew the answer before you asked :-) Only thing to consider is with a new born your life will change dramatically.. Ridng a bike is dangerous..and you've now got to consider the possibilty of leaving your kid and wife without a father and a husband.

I've ridden for 25+ years and recently sold my BMW K1200S.. I'm not sure if I'll buy another.. I'm getting older and I've lost a few really good friends along the way, I miss them everyday.. I also don't bounce back the way I did when I was 30.. and I always ride ATGATT

See my signature line. I've haven't changed it since I signed up...

As a parent, you need to ensure financial stability for your family if you decide to continue riding. Just the other day I saw a driver run a red light and tbone a car. First thought was what if that had been a bike. The car made no attempt to even stop. The red light simply didn't register. The occupants of the impacted vehicle walked away (30/35 mph crash). Had it been someone on a bike, even AGATT, the outcome would be much much different from such an impact.

I've been riding for close to 20 years, got rear ended while stopped at a light in 2011. That pretty much was the end of riding for me. I lost all interest in it and was just glad to walk away with no significant injuries. I may return to riding some day in the future, but not in the chicago area.

The 6mt G sedan was my replacement for the two wheels. While it does everything much slower than the bike did, and leans the wrong way, it's still somewhat an engaging driving experience

From experience I have a Gsxr and m109r and 13 G37S 6mt sedan all with a soon to be year old son. It's not the same, however the car is a lot of fun on the curve but its not dragging knee. Car is quick but the bikes are blazing and lastly you can't put a baby seat on a bike.

The G sedan is a little snug when you get to a rear facing convertible seat. We have the Recaro Pro Sport and I'm envious of my little man but I can't wait till the wife lets me face it forward.

There is no substitute and while a GTR and Bugatti can offer similar acceleration as a street bike I can only imagine that it wouldn't be the same because your not literally sitting on top of almost 200hp with no cage :-)

Just got rid of my G, but I've had an 08 CBR600RR since new, and while they are totally different, I really prefer the overall driving of a fast car. More control, less danger, more stability. Where the bike excels is in straight lines, some canyon carving, and I just love the sound of the inline 4's.

Better double check and put that carseat in the car and double check your spouse will be happy riding in the front seat with it in the back. Id bet dollars to doughnuts (National Doughnut day) that the passenger seat will be moved to its forward most position to get a rear facing seat in there. I have and could be wrong though...

For me it was completely opposite. While you are right about less danger in the car, I found the bike to be far more controllable and cornered a whole lot better than the car.

If you're riding in straight lines, you really aren't riding.

Get yourself a copy of "Twist of the Wrist 2", read it several times cover to cover, watch the video a few times, then go riding with someone that knows what they're doing to follow behind and critique. A cbr600rr is a full blown sport bike with crazy cornering capabilities. Practice practice practice. It takes lots of it to integrate body position, throttle control, braking, shifting all into one fluid motion for high speed cornering.

There is a lot to consider but what ErickM said hit me real deep. I think I may just pick up a G sedan until I can afford another crotch rocket and strictly use it for the track. Thank you everyone for your responses! Helped out a lot!

I sold my Suzuki SV1000 last summer and it would walk the G. 120hp V twin, it hit 60 in around 3.5 sec. A 1000cc superbike can do that in 2.9 or less!! So the G has no chance in providing you that sportbike rush.

I will just say, you already know the "right" thing to do even if you are fighting it.

I have a 2009 Yamaha FZ1 (1000cc) and a 2010 G37xS. For performance and feel, bike will always beat the car. However, sometimes it rains and sometimes it's just too cold or hot or too long a distance to enjoy riding, so you should have a car you can enjoy too!

The handling on the G37 is excellent and I can take many curves better in the car than I can on the bike -- the margin for error is much better on an AWD that can slide and recover than on a bike where you will just wipe out.
