Thinking about '13 Sedan from 08 Coupe. Couple of Questions

Hi Folks,

Long time owner of an 08 Coupe G37S. Love it, but need something a little more roomy.

Thinking about trading up to a 2013 G37 Sedan, but had a few questions that you all may be able to answer for me.

I'm interested in one with Sport, Premium, and Nav. The thing is, I like the wheels in the "performance wheel and tire package" but they aren't available with the sport package. Can anyone tell me why? Is it simply they don't clear the big brake kit? I know those used to be the sport wheels on the G35S for the 07 model year (I think).

Similarly, if I dont get the sport package and get the wheel kit, I am required to have maple wood trim in the car. I'd prefer the aluminum. Anyone know why?

I feel like I can get a decent price on the G with the Q coming out around the corner. Can someone tell me if the Sport package is even worth it on the sedan? Or would I be better off w/ the Tech package? Any input would be greatly preferred.

The performance wheel package (split 7 spokes) do not clear BBK. Also, they are not staggered either. I believe to get the wood package, you need to have the wheel package, but you don't have to get wood if you get the wheel package. I think the sport package would be better than the tech package. I would rather have the BBK, LSD, sport bumper, paddle shifters and seats over the nonsense tech stuff that I don't need.

Only in RWD. Otherwise, no, it's not worth it at all.

If you want to pay about 2k extra for the bumper and the paddle shifters then the sport package is worth your while. The sport sedan just doesn't come with all the extras that the sport coupe does.

Have S brakes changed since MY2009? I swear I've seen lots of RWD G37 sedans w/sport package with staggered spit 7-spoke upgrade and know eBay is replete with such sets (having just bought a non-staggered set for my G37x). Sure enough, the current G configurator does not show the them for MY2013. One hitch I notice is the split 7-spoke wheels only come with A/S tires whereas the RWD sport package wheels come with summer tires. Could this be why they're not available from the factory, to preserve the "sport" image/performance of the sport package?

IMO the split 7-spoke wheels are the best looking wheels for the G. I'd do research to see if the wheels will/won't fit the RWD w/sport package - I'd be surprisde if they didn't fit but one never knows. If they do fit looks like they'll be a bit of a PITA to get on a new car - you'll have to source them afterward from the private market or make some sort of deal with the dealer for a $$$$ upgrade via the parts department (I looked into this, they're ~$500/ea new from Infiniti!).

IMO, no, the sport package isn't worth it, at least for me. Stock the car already has loads of handling and braking capability and at my advanced age of 40 I will pass on an even stiffer suspension. However, I went with a G37x whose sport package doesn't have the brake/suspension/VLSD, so it pretty much only gets 18" wheels, paddle shifters, and a few other minor things (TOTALLY not worth it).

09 - current rwd Sport sedans come with the split 5, sort of speak. Rochester calls them duckfeet.

It's almost weird how people don't know this. Particularly people here on this forum.

All the performance benefits of the S-Coupe, with a usable trunk, accessible back seat, and less weight, too.

Made for Nissan by Enkei; 18x7.5" on all four corners for the G37xS, but staggered 18x8.5" on the rears for the G37S.

And yeah, they're pretty unattractive. You have to learn to appreciate them, and even then, it's an effort.

Advanced age? LOL, Sal... I'm almost 50, and yet I still think my 6MT could stand to be a little stiffer. Louder too... damn OEM exhaust is way too quiet.

Its just that the Q50 is right around the corner, if it were me I would trade up for the new generation vehicle instead of the last of the current generation.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I'm gonna test drive the G Sedan w/ and w/o sport to see the differences. I had a loaner (premium package only) and it felt surprisingly faster than my 08 Coupe w/ R2C intakes. Not sure if it was because it was lighter or what. My only concern with that car was when I braked at relatively high speeds (110+) the brakes didn't inspire much confidence.

As for the Q50, I did the numbers, and that would be significantly out of my price range. With my trade on my 08, I'd be paying the same or less for the G Sedan.

I am from Canada. We don't have a RWD option except with the manual so the X was implied with my post. I didn't realize you yanks still had the RWD in the Journey with an auto trans.

Sorry for any confusion

I'm only 70 miles south of the Canadian border, and around here 100% of the G-Sedans stocked by local dealerships are AWD, because snow and a completely gullible target market spoonfed into thinking they need AWD. That's just what sells, so that's what's on the lot. But that doesn't mean you can't order whatever you want.

^ we do have both 6MT and 7AT G37S sedans in Canada - just up until 2012 i believe. for 2013 you are correct, X, XS, 6MT are the only configurations. the Q50 will drop the 6MT for 2014 though, which is frustrating.

most of what you'll see is G37X or G37XS, however.

2012 was the 1st year that they dropped the RWD with the auto transmission up here. I bought one and had to get the AWD. I had previously test driven my friend's 2010 RWD and was a little disappointed with the AWD - but it has grown on me in the last 8 months.

The OP was talking about getting a '13, thus my assumption it would be the X
