^ Depends....Sometimes the parents buy/lease the car for them but tell them to pay for gas and insurance.

I mean college students who do have nice cars probably just have family money.

Those students aren't leasing those cars though.

I drive in nyc as well. My 37S coupe is my dd, gas prices here suck its something u just have to get use to if u can. If not, cut down how much u drive or get something less sporty.

Wow. Tough crowd. I have to admit, i expected better gas mileage than the 17mpg I get with a 70/30 city/hwy mix.

I really think there's something wrong with his car. Couldn't he try some routine maintenance like changing air filter, cleaning throttle body, changing spark plugs?

I mean honestly, don't you do all the expected future costs of having a car before actually getting a car??? Especially if youre in college...

His car is virtually brand new but even if not a "tune up" (or lack of one) on a modern car isn't going to materially change mpg. Also, if there was something wrong so as to materially diminish mpg he'd be getting all sorts of errors.

I have a 2010 G37x - the onboard computer shows me at around 12.5L/100KM which comes out to 18.8miles per US Gallon.

If he is only getting half of that, there is something wrong. Is OP using premium gas? Even during break-in, I was still getting probably 16mpg.

I have a 2010 G37x, mine is showing 16L/100km, which is 14.7 mpg. When the car was new, and I was commuting through downtown traffic (of a small city), it used to be worse than 21L/100km, which is 11.2 mpg.

i just got a 13 G37X . Havent even finished the tank that came with the car, but the computer says I am getting 26 mpg. Im sure the dealer doesn't put premium in the car. No pinging at all-do I need to use premium? at .50 more per gallon? what's the down side to using regular gas

The manual recommends premium, use it. You have no business driving a $45k car if you can't afford premium gas for it. Some people will swear by using regular gas, but I'll tell you this... I wouldn't want to buy their car used later on.

I bet my money that no one would cheap out on the gas if they owned the car new.

Yeah, using lower octane gas in G is like doing a complete granite remodel in your house and not being able to afford food:
