Newbie questions regarding Infiniti G sedan
Hello all, I am new to these forums and I have tried searching my question but I do not think I see any posts that answer it. First I would like to apologize that I'm not too familiar with cars, so it's probably something everyone knows and doesn't ask.
I have a 2011 Infiniti G25 automatic (wish I got the G37, but my parents got it for me so can't complain). Is it okay to drive the car in the manual setting daily or is it meant to be for occasional things like saving my brakes while going downhill in a canyon? Also is it okay to downshift to avoid braking like say on a highway? How aggressive can I be with this? I feel the car is much more responsive in the manual setting. I can pass people (when needed) much easier in 3rd and 4th in the manual setting, where the automatic would normally be putting me at 5th or something higher. I don't really bring it much past 6k revs ever because I don't want to hurt the transmission/engine. Maybe I'm being too careful or that is bad, I'm not sure.
On a side note, while I am asking, does anyone else have an issue with an iPhone 4S? I have tried many cables (from Apple) and if I just move the cable slightly, music will stop playing and the car will say "Check Connection Device". This seems to be fixed only by turning the car off and then back on. I think I googled somewhere that it could be a voltage issue (5v/12v?) but not sure as the page isn't available anymore.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can answer my newbie questions!

I've read the some people on here drive only in DS mode. Personally, I just use it for spirited driving, and just keep it in Drive when driving normally. It won't harm your engine either way. Enjoy the car, don't be afraid to drive it, but at the same time don't be too reckless.
Post some pictures of your G when you get a chance!
You can use manual shifting as much as you like as you've got rev protection that will automatically up shift if you approach the rev limiter. Don't downshift just for the braking, that should be accompanied w/ your brakes if you need to be slowing down abruptly, again you've got rev protection so you can't over downshift but putting braking entirely on the transmission will eventually cause premature wear. Much cheaper replacing rotors and pads than the tranny for sure.
BTW, welcome to the site and like My09G37X stated, post some pics when you can.

Down shifting on canyon downhills doesn't seem to work with the 7at because of the rev matching. I saw a few posts talking about it and since I drive what would be considered canyons daily I thought I'd give it a shot. Downshifted 3 gears and all that happened was my rpm went up to 5k coasting down the hill. Maybe I'm doing it wrong though. Either way I agree with Blnewt, much cheaper to replace pads/rotors than a transmission. I'll keep using my brakes.

^^That is what's supposed to happen. Take your foot off the throttle when going down hill. You'll notice the car beginning to slow down. That's engine braking doing its thing. Keeps your brakes from over heating when controlling the speed on a descend.
Had a problem with my iPod (iPod Disconnected over and over), and it was my iPod - which had no other symptoms with audio until I tried to use the iPod interface through the Infinity System.
Replaced my iPod and everything was fine. Prior to doing so I tried out two other iPods and they were fine too. The tech said that he saw it often. Sometimes a new cable fixed it, sometimes a new iPod fixed it.
