Should I be concerned with engine replacement on G37xS
Should I be concerned with engine replacement on G37xS
My 2011 G37xS has had a little unexplainable hiccup at 18k on the odometer which requires a major engine replacement. My issue is that the car is leased and I don't trust the fact that I will not spend half my life in the shop after the replacement.
I wanted some opinions about whether you think the dealership should let me return the car after only one year in the lease. I am concerned about safety and wasting my time from here on out.
Opinions???

I would talk to the dealer about it. See if they'll allow you to turn it in early, and if not, negotiate some type of deal for the remainder of the lease due to your inconvenience.
I'm sure they'll work with you.

I guess your definition of a "little hiccup" is quite different than mine. I'd call complete engine replacement a massive coronary, but that's just me
They should be able to get it back to you pretty quick assuming they get the motor & any associated parts to the dealer in a timely manner. The only thing that would be a bummer other than the wait would be having to go through the 1000 mile break in again. And assuming the motor breakdown didn't affect any other components you should be good to go. Not really sure what else they should do except provide a loaner vehicle (equivalent to your G) during the duration. Maybe you could get some free services (oil changes, etc.) applied but they're only required to perform the warranty work but may goodwill some extras. Sucks to hear of your problem, care to provide more info on this particular "hiccup"??

No, a mechanical failure doesn't absolve you of obligation to complete your lease and walk away. They may try to get you to trade out of it and into a new car in order to get more of your money on a new lease though.
Black betty is correct.
Your leased, is try to work something out.
Had my entire engine replaced at 28k 3year old car I financed.
The new motor was great, but its not a selling point I found out.
People hear new motor & make the assumption, car is a problem.

It's not really an assumption. If you had a complete engine failure there was obviously a very serious problem. Of course engine replacement may have completely fixed it and all may be fine, but yes it gives some people pause when purchasing something. It makes most people want to avoid the car and look at a different one, even thought the motor is newer.
Don't worry....its just a lease. Unless the replacement is unsatisfactory and problems continue, you have no recourse. Just be glad you car is a lease and not a purchase. Another great reason to lease rather than purchase....if the deal is good enough.
