Complicated move from '09 to '12 - should I?
Complicated move from '09 to '12 - should I?
I have an '09 black on black G37XS, lease, with just over one year to go. It has custom wheels and tires, both excellent that I am very happy with. Rial Ravenna (18"x8") and Conti ExtremeContact DWS 255/45-18's. (Google "Rial Ravenna" to see them on a nice black Merc).
Due to incentives, etc., I can get into a '12 G37XS for quite a nice drop in monthly payment. Only one car left that matches mine--blue. 4 year lease.
Problems:
1) Black wheels won't go with blue car (I assume everyone agrees!) and dealer needs original wheels for trade-in. I assumed I would not be getting another G, so wheels would get traded at end of my lease to someone on here who liked them.
2) Can't keep just the tires, because they won't fit the stock rims (which I don't like anyway).
3) Don't really want a four year lease, but have always ended leases early due to low mileage. Will '12 G's hold their value with the new model coming out soon (reason for incentives now) and other new competitors, too?
What do you think? Can't drive stock tires after the Conti's no matter what. 3 sizes wider and 3 steps in quality better = a totally different driving experience.

1. Black wheels may look fine on BS.
2. I would wait for the next model.
3. There are tires much better than the Contis.
4. Get sways if you want to drastically improve handling.

You are making something that is not complicated, complicated. I wouldn't do a 4 year lease this close to the new model year even if you do end them early, why not get to the end of your current lease and then re-evaluate when the new models are coming out?
Because I could be saving $$$$$$$$/month and driving virtually the same car?

Interesting. Well, have you looked around with other dealers? If you have Infiniti incentives, im sure they should be able to carry to any dealer. Browse around more and see what you can get. Im sure they can put you into a less of a year lease. And look, you have about a year to go. They want to get you out now, so you stay with Infiniti. I say let it ride for another 6 months and then browse again if anything.
As stated, I do NOT want to drive a G37 for another four years.
The incentives are on NOW because the new model isn't out yet. They need to a) get my car ASAP and re-sell it before gen-pop realizes that the new one is right around the corner, and b) move a 2012 so they aren't stuck with them when the '13's arrive in the Spring.
I highly doubt they will be so interested in my car AFTER the new one arrives.
If I had more confidence that the new G was going to be great, I would wait. That was my initial plan. But a MB C Class-based chassis with likely the same 3.7 gruff engine and 7 sp auto....not so exciting. A twin-turbo should have been part of the main package, not an M-competitor at the very high end. Drop the Ford 3.5L TT or Volvo 3.0L T into it if you have to...either would be better (power and efficiency and smoothness) than the 3.7. Add an 8 sp. tranny and a next-gen Skyline chassis and I would have been there 100%. But no $$$ for a new Skyline chassis, new tranny or new engine from what I can discern.
I like the new 335, but it is way too expensive for what you get.
So I guess the question is whether it will be easier to transfer a very attractive lease to someone after 18 months or so on the '12 (if something competitive comes along), or, keep what I have, pay a lot more for the next 15 months, and dream that Infiniti will give me a good deal (due to extreme low mileage) to transfer into a new G in Jan '14 where my comparison will be the existing much higher monthly payment on a car that will have lost its shine (at least according to Infiniti who will claim the new G is better in every way)?

The offer now is a good example why. Effectively the same car; significantly lower payment. How? Because I put fewer than allowed miles on, I can recapture that value.
Normally, I only do that so I can get a different, more interesting car. If you read the thread, you would see it is dilemma as nothing else is available that is more interesting. So do I trade-off the lower cost now (bird in the hand) or wait and possibly have trouble getting out of the new lease in 18 months when I either want the next gen G or something else?
There is no 1 year lease and it wasn't mentioned above.
If it were me, I would wait and see what the new G really looks like and offers in performance when compared to a few similar vehicles. BTW I think you would be waiting for the 2014 G released in 2013
4 year leases are very common in Canada. A monthly G37 payment on a 4 year lease is comparable to 2 year lease in the USA. The cost of the car, extras at purchase and taxes are ridiculous here.
Some of our US friends possibly wouldn't own a new G if they had to pay what we do. But I'm glad they don't.

Sometimes what you think will save you money in the short run ends up costing you even more in the long run. There are always deals out there to be had, this won't be the last one.
That being said you seem to have already made up your mind so why are you asking?

MArc,
I sell these cars, I know how it works. They don't NEED to do it now, they just make you think it. When the new model comes out and your lease is up, you will have the same kind of specials running, When your about 3 months out of your lease they will be running a pull ahead program. Why do you think we did so many 18 month leases? I say wait for the new model, if you like it then go for it, if you don't do you think the 13's will be more expensive when everyone is rushing in to get a 14? Negative, it will be an even better deal without having to jump into a 48 month lease, which at that is a more expensive lease than a 24 month, which is the optimal one now, unless they are trying to bury your current lease into the new one, which means you will carry more negative into your lease and you will be paying more into it. Just my 2 cents, but if you want to jump into a 13 for 4 years when the 14 model will be a vast improvement, then go for it. But just remember for 3 years you will be driving around looking at what could have been.
Also I am a fellow Canadian from North Bay, I wouldn't steer you wrong
