Brand New to the 2012 G37 6mt

Picked up this guy over the weekend. It's getting tint right now. White exterior with all black interior. It's really fun to drive, but I'm struggling learning the transmission so far

Congratulations and welcome. Nice Int/Ext combo.
What is it, about the transmission, that you are struggling with?

The only other car I owned that was a manual was an MG from the 80s. I stopped driving that about 6 years ago, so I'm a little rusty.

1st -> 2nd transition is pretty rough for me right now

Congrats! Love the white. I was contemplating getting 6MT, but didn't drive manual for some time. Pedal shifters does the job just fine lol

Thanks! Yea white was the only color they had on the lot. 1 6mt and 68 AWD's...

The sales manager told me there were only 2 2012 6mt's on the west coast and looked it up on a database in front of me. I'm not sure how much I believe that one though.

That's a lot of awd Gs! I dont think it helps that the model year is almost over.

Any mod plans?

It's a lease, so I'm not sure. I'm looking around to see what others are doing though.

I'm going to be in the same boat as I'm leasing mine. Modding my last daily driver didn't work out so well for me, so ill probably stay stock, maybe some vinyl wrapping of the chrome trim.

It gets better. And by that I mean, you will get better.

For the longest time after picking up my 6MT, I struggled with first gear. There seemed to be only two ways to drive it out of the hole: like an old lady, or like racecar. And my 1-2 gear shifts were brutal.

Trust me, you'll get better. Once you master (sic) the car, you'll develop the muscle memory and instincts that you wish you had the day you drove it home.

Just keep swimming.

You have shifters on your Pedals? (or Paddles)

Welcome to the club. I've been driving stick cars for 15 years and I found it weird the first time I drove it home as well.

You'll get the hang of it. You guys are right though, when I drive like an animal its easy to drive, I've actually struggled more when trying to drive normal. lol.

Taking off at the normal rate is tough. Sometimes I get the shakes on take of and I'm actually trying to drive nice and slow.

But, I love it. It's better to have a stick car and wish it was automatic, than have an auto and wish really bad it was stick.

welcome! i saw a model just like that for sale in Oregon a while back.

like others have said, just take your time and you'll find a technique that works for you. the g37 gearbox is not butter smooth like a honda, but it is very stout and mechanical feeling.

with the power of the g37 you can easily skip shifts (1-3-5, 2-4-6, etc) depending on rate of acceleration, road gradient, or traffic tendencies. this can reduce fuel consumption as well.

also, lost of guys have removed a secondary spring in the clutch pedal assembly. this improves pressure point feel, but increases pedal effort very slightly. search the DIY section if you are interested. i did it, took me ~10 minutes, and i won't be changing back anytime soon.
