Hey guys, I just purchased a new G37S sedan about three weeks ago and I absolutely love it. The car is amazing and I couldn't ask for anything better!

I wanted to post and ask, how long did it take for people to get their first door ding or bumper scratch?

I'm extremely careful with all my cars and toys but I swear you can never have anything nice! I park my car in my garage and we have a garage at work and I take extra care to park next to a wall and away from other cars... But... The first time I park my car on the street, I come out and what do I find? I nice scrape on my bumper from the car behind me!

How long until you guys noticed your first scratch and what did you do about it?

 

I got this scratch after 1.5 yrs.

This is my second, 2nd gen, G. It was keyed 4 days after purchase.

Long story short: The Infiniti dealership called his guy at CarStar and they sprayed it for me, N/C, good as new. Sometimes it pays to be a repeat customer.

Sniper27 clearly wins for best 'scratch' and sense of humour.

Right on. Thanks for the invite. Where in Torrance exactly? I work during the week in Santa Monica but I could probably shoot out there for a few hours mid day...

My car is completely stock minus 20% tint on all windows so not much to show on my end, but it would definitely be cool to check out other people's rides and see what you guys are doing to them.

 

Just goes to show you that you can't ever have anything nice without someone trying to mess up your program!

 

 

In L.A. guaranteed dings, plural, and scratches here and there every few months from the last. I dont know why.

I try to park as far away or uncrowded spaces to avoid the dings more than the scratches. It makes me more visually aware of others cars too, I have seen 911's. R8's, Aston's, GT-R, all with at least one door ding or bumper scratch. Some dont even have their plates yet.

I have friends that live more eastward or other towns that will own a car for years without one scratch or ding.

The wiseazz answer is: it's a car. It's supposed to be driven. But we all (most) feel a little more than that, so I sympathize.

I had my last car for almost 10 years. Only two ding in all that time, and I had both fixed by our local Ding Doctor. My only significant scratch was self-inflicted (because idiot). Paint chips? Yeah, sadly it's a fact of life. However, with this car I'm intending to keep ahead of the curve on chips. Had three that I filled, sanded, and polished in to where they virtually disappeared. Not too bad if I say so myself. Still learning.

Right now, I'm very fortunate to work in a location where my car parks alone and in sight of my office window. Lots of peace of mind there. If I lived in a city like LA or Boston, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't own a G37. I'd get something cheap, fun to drive, easy to fix and completely nondescript. A beater and winter rat, but with a strong engine. Mustang comes to mind, LOL!

 

^^^ Right on.. I wouldn't drive a nice car in busy cities, it is simply impossible to keep idiots away from damaging your properties. Here at NJ, there are so many idiots driving around with cell phones stick to their ears or clueless on operating a vehicle properly. I have a beater just for these occasions when it is absolute necessary to park in a less than decent area.

 

At the 3 month mark....1200 miles - GIANT FREAKING HAIL!! Blew out my back window - and about 7k worth of damage on the rest of the car. After a new hood and 30 days of excellent work from a local shop - she is good as new again. Not one scratch. Actually - better than new
