It should have been a 4 banger option from the start. I had always assumed it was a 4 cylinder until I read the window sticker on one at the dealership.

You werent saving much price-wise when buying it, the option packages were limited AND it didnt really gain much fuel economy? Color me unsurprised it failed.
it not that it failed, it was to really obtain people that wanted to get into a luxury car at an affordable price.

The gas mileage was never the reason people bought the G25, it was a luxury sedan with a lot of standard amenities at a right price.

and the Asian and Euro markets already had the 2.5L out for years so why not bring it out.

Lexus sells more IS250's than IS350's, Benz sells more smaller motor C250 (prev. C300 vs C350's), BMW 328i's.... Audi now only has the smaller 2.0T...

smaller engines worked but Infiniti had the bigger motor from the beginning.

Which one sold more? G25, or G37?

Even in the middle east, the G25 outsells the G37 Sedan

Infiniti doesn't separate G25 from G37 sedan sales in their news releases or public stats. I think it's safe to say that since the G25 was introduced a few years ago, it's had limited success. The goal was to appeal to a market segment that wanted all the amenities and design qualities of the G at a lower price point.

If the G25 sedan became a huge sales success in North America, Infiniti would capitalize with little outlay or risk. I suspect the sales numbers haven't been near to what was anticipated and the decision was made to discontinue the model.
